I’m hoping to use this thread to collect ideas from people who are using their octatrack to make music similar to me, though I don’t really know what genre specifically it is, but it’s all very dancey club music.
Labels like Innervisions, Last Night on Earth, Life and Death, Kompakt, Atlant, Watergate
Here are some examples:
La Fleur - Tears
Dusky - Amongst the Gods
Fort Romeau - Kingdoms
Ampola - Kevin Di Serna
Moritz Hofbauer - Swallow Some Joy
Mario Canal - Lost Souls Seeking Comfort
La Fleur - Aphelion (Chloe Caillet Remix)
Jimi Jules- Karma Baby
boys be kko - Oreinspotting
Steve Reich - Ngoya Marimbas(HNNY Edit)
So if you fit into this genre with your octatrack creations, what are some techniques/processes you use in creating your tracks?
- How do you pull the sound together, maintain space, track progression?
I’ll start with some basic things I’ve come up with, in my limited success in creating tracks I’m actually happy with and the short time I’ve had the octatrack (paired with a Virus TI);
-
Using a white noise sample for hats and then having a scene tied to the amp release so I can turn the patter of the hats into a noise wash, which could then be filtered or so for quick little builds.
-
Snare samples usually go into a short dark or plate reverb with 50% mix and high shelf cut
-
I have T8 as a master track running a DJ EQ which I map to scenes and a compressor with which I try and glue the mix together + depending on settings I can get a nice pumping action around the bass drum
I am not looking for anything specific but hopefully some discussion on this little sub genre of music. Thanks!
