I know nothing about software development but would it be possible (and maybe alleviate some woes?) to have it compatible with earlier versions of windows like XP or W7 then run it in compatibility mode on newer versions of windows?

The project is awesome, nonetheless the only feature that could fill my need is the manager module and I will not buy the entire software just for this. Are you planning a separate module for this function as you did for the chainer ?

No. Have investigated that before. It is really not worth the time, effort or energy to have multiple separate builds and a disparate user base, given how tightly integrated all the code/logic is etc.

You don’t I’m afraid. I’ve disabled it until I have finished OctaEdit v2.
a) Chainer is embedded as a module of OctaEdit
b) Chainer is also standalone; but won’t be released till I finish OctaEdit v2.

OctaEdit v2 is/has been a full rebuild / recode of everything. It only supports OSv1.4 and above.
