Nord Modular G2

Wait, maybe that’s my stupid mistake. I thought local on meant it would
engage the keyboard. Thanks! I’ll check that.

I don’t have a patch set-up for midi out yet. Haven’t even gotten to using sequencers in my patches yet. This is my third time having the opportunity and privilege of owning a Nord Modular, but I need to get into the midi out thing. I forget that even exists. This time I’ve just been making patches with a bunch of oscillators, LFO’s and filters and making everything modulate each other… I’ll have to sit down tonight and read the manual about midi out. This could get me to use some sequencers for a change.
So, no I haven’t, but thank you, I’ll try tonight.

When “Local” is on, the keyboard controls the internal synth engine AND sends MIDI.
When it is off, the keyboards only sends MIDI.

You may want to check the MIDI out channels assigned to each slot (as well as the “send” activiation astatus) and select the apropriate slot to control the desired MIDI channel.

These seem to be the main midi settings. I tried it with both local on and off. No keyboard, or knob midi output. Might have to dig up some schematics. I imagine the midi jack goes to the main board. Maybe short. Or, gone loose in it’s lifetime. Thought I’d check here before I start any dissection.
Midi in does work, so that’s also better than nuthin. Would just be nice to use it as a controller.

Just looking at the service manual. It has a “Test Program” with a few button pushes while powering up. Has a Midi test, so I’ll try this.

Bummer. Don’t know what my next step would be, but to take it apart and check all the components with my multi-meter.

Not a mistake on your part at all, rather mine. Local on/off should not make any difference to the problem you are trying to solve. My apologies for steering you on the wrong path.

Too bad. Don’t know how to help unfortunatly except from testing if midi in and thru works. But if you have a solution of some sort, please inform us here.

I wonder if it could be caused by a MIDI feedback loop. Do you have both IN and OUT connected ?
What happens if you run this test without any MIDI connected ?

Yeah, no midi plugged in during the test. I think it must be a hardware thing. At some point my usb connection on the back went kind of wobbly. The usb still works (thank god!!), but maybe that is part of the problem. We’ll see. I have an electronics engineering savant friend that I’ll ask to take a look soon and report back. It’s not terribly concerning to me, but I would love to be able to use it as a controller for Ableton and a couple of desktop synths. Bummer, but I also have a Analog Keys that works fine.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I meant to ask on here for a while, but then I didn’t realize how many people still love this machine.

Good suggestion. Midi in does work (My Octatrack triggers it perfectly), but I haven’t checked thru yet. That’s another piece to the puzzle.

Damn!! Thanks for the work. This has been a crazy year for legacy software. This and the Octatarack editor make me very happy. The idea that I could at some point not have to use a old Windows laptop to run my G2 software would make my life a lot better. I could do some testing if you need it. MacBook Air M2 and a G2 keys here. I hope to god that you include the patch mutator? Not sure it can be done with those little drawing like patch representations? But, the mutator is my favorite part of the synth.
Also down to pay for a working macOS G2 editor, so let me know.

Let me add another thank you! Also happy to help with testing (G2 engine and M1 MBP here) and/or $.

and +1 that the mutator is essential

Yes it’s a crazy time. My first goal is a working basic editor (without the mutator first). But i also like the mutator a lot, so i’d like to implement it. But it needs some investigation how it works exactly. Also the graphics
I send you a PM for testing/funding.
