LFO to amp hold (which trig mode and lfo wave depends on the sample/pattern) with decay to zero or p-lock amp hold/release appropriately can mimic a gate.
Trigless trig (microtiming) to retrig the amp env.
Or try lfo/p-locking amp volume instead (again might need trigless trig with microtiming(.
Is there any workaround to p-lock a trigger with the condition 10:16, for instance ? Not 5:8, but 10:16 really.
Why ? Because i’m working in a live presentation with the Octa with Rytm, and because the Rytm has only 8 banks, i have to squeeze the most of each pattern, so i’m doing one song per 8 patterns.
Not a noob question again, I should flag you unless you change topic’s name!
But I like all the things pushing the limits (concerning OT for sure).
Just a simple thought, can’t you double your pattern length, or change Scale Multiplier?
Don’t know if there are any other ways to trigger the fill on the Rytm, but you could cue the fill on the OT (so it activates at the next pattern cycle) reach over to the Rytm and trigger the fill just in time there?
That’s what i’m actually doing, it works. Would be easier to have a way to trig the fill on both machines at once, but nevermind, it’s working manually
Ok, now a really noob one : Although the Octatrack is a ‘sampler’, i usually don’t use it as a sampler, so now i’m trying to sample and i’m missing something…
I want to sample CD inputs, using T5. I hold T5, press REC2 and Octa starting to sample. I hit stop when i want to stop.
Problem is, when i go to AED, the sample volume is VERY low… I want the volume to be exactly as the CD input is sounding.
You’re monitoring with DIR CD?
Starting from default settings, if you want to play the recording at the same level with a Flex, T5 Level has to have same value as DIR (I use 127 for both).
Recording level depends on MIXER GAIN. Increase it to record louder. Red led corresponds to - 12db, so it can be red without clipping. Find the limit.
Should i increase this ‘DIR’ value on CD ? But when i do it, i can hear the sound kind of ‘double’, is that normal ? I told you i’m a noob on sampling…
I did it, recorded the sample with +64 on Thru vol. But when i go to AED, the recorded sample is so low i even can see the waveforms only by zooming it a lot. I’m missing something here…
The recorders are separate from the audio tracks, you use the track buttons 1-8 to to access recorders 1-8, but it doesn’t matter what machines are on the audio tracks or what they’re settings are…
Track+rec1 will record the a/b inputs, track+rec2 the c/d inputs, both according to the input selections made in record setup2. Track+rec3(midi button on MKI) can record the output of a track, whatever’s cued, or the main mix, depending on the Src3 setting made in record setup2.
By pressing track6+rec2 your recording the signal from the c/d inputs according to the INCD input selection settings you’ve made in record setup2 for track recorder 6 and are recording to record buffer 6.
The recording you get will be the audio arriving at the OT before it gets to the thru track. Recorder 6 doesn’t know you have a thru track on track 6 so the thru tracks input settings, amp vol, or any other settings won’t affect the recording.
If you are processing the audio with the thru track using trigs or fx and you want to record that audio, you can use any track recorder you want by setting Src3 to T6, setting record setup1 how you want, then record by pressing the track button of the recorder track you used+rec3(midi on MKI).
If your not using fx on the thru you might as well monitor with mixer direct to spare a track. If your using trigs or fx on the thru but want the recording to be dry you’d do what you’ve been doing.
