New PUSH 3 MPE, Standalone option...out now!

Push 3 is a standalone instrument not arranger, that’s how its marketed and sold as. Push has never had arranger thats not what Push is about, its all the session view.

Yeah, but then again, its …… something, right? :relaxed:

Luke „Digiboxes“ were never meant for Songmode, that what’s the big boxes for.

did they charge you immediately or waiting to ship for charging?

But to be fair, the Push-in-a-Box is the closest thing to what Ableton Live-in-a-Box could be. How many theoretical Ableton Live-in-a-Box devices have there been? This is the “real deal” for a change. You can’t get more Ableton in a box than this.

It charges when it’s ready to ship.

I’ve used maschine yea. And it’s arranger is not really comparable to abletons arranger. We can list a long list of devices that have some form of an arranger but in this case it has to work together with the das arranger in a meaningful way.

Not saying it’ll be impossible to implement but I just wonder if and how they’ll do it.

When my standalone unit arrives I’ll have a better idea, but as someone who’s come to like arrangement view more than Session view, I understand why you’re hopeful.

With that said, I would imagine any variation of an arrangement view on Standalone to be extremely limited that it might seem pointless to some, except to record the output of Session view. This could be a great way to share the resulting tracks without needing to touch the computer.

It also might require a shift in mindset of your approach to Live’s Session view. You can record pretty freely in session view I don’t think you’ll ever do actual arranging on Push 3 Standalone. No mouse cursor, so it would be incredibly tedious if it were possible.

I would have hoped the Push 3 came with a fold up big touch screen, as a Push 2 user who can’t imagine using the Push without a computer. Or at least a fold up screen that could be added later

A thing I really loved with Apple when I first shifted over from Windows, was that their macbook pros shipped with upgrade instructions in the box. Having the ability to upgrade at a future time really made me think they had some green credentials and weren’t trying to rip me off and I took advantage a few times. I know their business model changed, but that was a golden time. That Ableton have introduced this is fantastic, at least in theory, as I don’t think they’re going to allow us to add our own gear, or outsource it to other vendors, but at least it’s something.

That is excellent to hear, thanks for confirming for me! I am secretly expecting Bitwig + MPE to be the real star of the show here, considering how thorough and well designed the implementation of per voice modulation is throughout that DAW. I’m hoping the existence of Push 3 might motivate Ableton to get to their level.

I ordered a standalone last Tuesday and nothing. I’m in the US. One day lol

I doubt you will get (the complete flexibility) abletons arranger, it would be horrible to use due to controller limitations. If you will get something i think it will need to be a compromise of some sort. Buts lets hope they do something.

Yeah indeed. Would be cool if they’d use the mpe pads to drag regions in a more detailed way across the time line or something

With the update to CV tools I managed to get something going on my semi modular.

Has anyone figured out how to configure these properly though?

Using a splitter cable from one CV out on the Push - set which does gate and which does pitch?

I see CV ext 1 & 2 in Ableton itself but I think that means between the two physical outs?

I haven’t had chance to try CV yet but at least according to section 2.2.6 in the manual:

When using CV, Pedal 1 represents outputs 5 and 6 on Push, while Pedal 2 represents outputs 7 and 8.

so, Linux version of Live is technically possible.

More than possible…it exists! I suspect Live 12 will support the OS officially as the work required to make Live run on Linux must have already been done.

And so the cycle will begin again…Plugin devs are going to get hounded for Linux support 2 years like they did for Apple Silicon support…

Ooooh sorry missed that. Let me give it a go

I would love if Ableton made Live work on ipads. Push 3 controller with an ipad running live. Would be pretty similar to the standalone version. Would get better “hardware” and you could just “upgrade” the ipad when needed.
