New PUSH 3 MPE, Standalone option...out now!

Until Apple upgrade iOS and break the hardware connection…Apple are not interested in supporting anything unless they make it! If you want the tablet/controller solution a MS Surface works now!

Ned rush just got a Push 3 so expect some barmy techniques posted on his YouTube soon :ok_hand:

I wouldn’t be so optimistic. While I don’t really think that’s the case, they could still have it run on wine/proton. On top of that, it is still a difference, to support one exact configuration of hardware or all of them.
On top of that: Does Ableton want to support that. if they launch Live on Linux, they release a limited version because VSTs don’t work. but people start to ask for Linux-Based plug-ins. they may need to handle support requests that are about specific hardware not running, event if it’s not something Ableton can fix.
Do they want to open that pandora box for such a small target group.

It is a very small target group (but often vocal!) but I think a lot of the work must have been done already- Linux users are often used to hacking stuff, only a mater of time until the PUSH version finds its way on to other Linux computers!

Is this only available through Ableton’s site? I haven’t found a listing for it with any retail store in North America.

Yes as per https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/209070029

Just to say as the OP my standalone PUSH turned up today so I am moving over to the ‘PUSH user’ thread :stuck_out_tongue:

Posted over in the user thread, but I just released a simple song mode for Push: Ableton Push Song Mode (gumroad.com)

The flexibility of M4L and access to the Live API is going to make the Push 3 Standalone a device hard to match when it comes to workflow customizations.

Would love feedback, thanks!

Already been invaded by a few non users taking glee in the fact a few users are having problems but top marks for being patient :+1:

Short interim conclusion on the standalone version after about 7 hours of use.

Somehow totally mixed, a lot of sun but also shadow …

All of this is my personal opinion and may change after updates and a learning curve.

Pros:
-It is insanely fast to capture ideas and create the basic structure of a song. The included sounds and packs are actually absolutely sufficient if you have Suite to compose music of any style on a very high level without any problems.
-Effects and warping are on the expected, very high level, no approximate comparison to another hardware device possible that has so many high-quality FX and algorithms for the price. Especially the functionality & optical feedback e.g. of the EQ Eight is worth its weight in gold here.
-MPE on drums fascinates me more than I thought, nuanced playing with subtleties on a level not seen before possible.
-Sampling is super easy, sampled a TR-06 drum beat, warped it and it laid perfectly in sync with the internally programmed percussions without any further problems
-So much more to explore I just scratched the surface …

Cons (just my experience may differ to other users):
-The unit sometimes (e.g. when using MPE combined with repeats) becomes unreliable and doesn’t respond for a short time.
-Once or twice the device stopped responding to user input for no apparent reason. After a bit of waiting, editing was possible again. One time I had to restart since waiting di not solve the issue.
-The battery seems not calibrated, my device switched from 19% to 1% and then off. Even more annoying is that I could not restart it immediately despite connected power supply. Only after the battery had charged about 5%, the device could be restarted
-The battery charges very slowly, it takes about 4h, real usage time 2h -_-
-The device gets very warm with intensive use, I use it on a LOCI XL stand, I would not want to have it on my lap

  • The device is actually Ableton - in a big bulky box.
-It’s honestly not ergonomic at all, it’s heavy and unwieldy, purely from an ergonomic standpoint I find my MPC Live 2 or Maschine+ worlds better. I don’t know if I’ll actually get the Push 3 in a backpack with a proper protective case, it’s really wide and deep.
-I don’t really like the sponginess of the buttons and the low pressure point. I think I will get used to it but can not understand why Ableton has not installed more tactile buttons here. I also find the sensitivity of the small encoders too high, I often reach for Shift to get better control.

Neutral:
-Till now with my device had no real crash or encoder or headphone problems- should be granted for 2k but I had to restart once - software will improve I am sure
-If you don’t know Ableton, the device is by no means intuitive to use. First you have the feeling: Oh, everything is simple and mapped without too much unnecessary info. But then you find yourself getting stuck with the simplest steps. Without instructions, many simple-looking steps are out of reach. So keep the manual close. Sadly it does not answer all questions. Patience is a virtue I guess.

Will continue to report after more testing.

At the time of its release, a Japanese YouTuber commented that it was too heavy and too hot to put on his knees, so I tried to inform everyone before purchasing, but for some reason it was hidden. But it was true, wasn’t it? Are you saying that I was a nuisance for having kindly informed you before paying the large amount? I wanted to convey neutral information, not to incite negativity. It’s a strange impression that the opponent’s view is rather biased to defend Ableton, but what about it? I love both suite and push2, but I have a strong impression that they were released like a beta test, which is a shame.

I’ve played it running on battery, sitting with it on my knees with shorts on and I didn’t have any problems with it being too hot or heavy. YMMV, but my real world experience suggests otherwise…

Apparently not

I’m finding it okay on my lap. Not getting too hot or too heavy.

Thank you for your comment. If there are no problems, I would like to purchase it immediately, but in another thread, there are many concerns such as dial problems, restarts, cable problems, and key sensor problems. If the degree of perfection is high, it will be very attractive, so I am very worried

Thank you very much to all of you. It can be considered positively.

There are definitely a decent number of people experiencing issues. I am thankful that I received a unit that so far is functioning nearly flawlessly.

I am glad I did not wait, but I think doing so makes complete sense.

The are still some software bugs, awkward aspects of workflow, not all M4L devices work, etc so if your threshold for enjoyment is a high degree of perfection, I’d wait a while before dipping your toes in the Push 3 waters.

thank you. I have a gig in September. There is a training camp for that purpose in August. There is also maschine plus, but since it is a collaboration with a live band, I expect MPE to have the nuances of P3. I’d like to take a closer look at the thread and think about it. Of course everyone’s kind advice is a life hack and all responsibility is mine.
