My Digitone still sounds better than your Digitone II

why would you want more polyphony or more processing power or more synthesis engines or more modulation or more midi sequencing control or more effects or more filters or more features in your music making tools? so SICK of people thinking that better instruments will help them make music

With that logic you should take an MPC 500 ! And you may regret it. :content:

You must be sick oftenly reading Elektronauts ! :content:
Didn’t you buy DT2 and DN2 ?

What if we can have more pleasure with more in depth gear ? Spending more time on sound design is part of the pleasure for me, and for example Keytracking is very important to make FM patches…
I even find the DN2 limited on some aspects, compared to an Hydrasynth…I’d want more modulations ! I wouldn’t go back to DN1 I already sold a few years ago.

Did you post your thoughts on the mpc2500 anywhere?

I agree with this sentiment in general. But OG Digitone is probably the wrong synth to fight that fight.

With its four tracks, it was severely limited if you want to use it as a groovebox to make a track on. Why would you make better music with only four tracks? For me, it meant that I needed another machine to make a track or spend way too much time programming drums on just 1-2 tracks. With DN II, I can do it all in one box. I already revived several sketches I made on OG and added drums, so the update actually helped me make tracks instead of sketches.

If you only used it as a multitimbral synth module or always record in OB anyways, four tracks are great. Doesn’t mean that everybody who works differently is a GAS addict that doesn’t have any ideas and tries to cover that with new gear.

@hseiken-HSI

I’ll swear I’ll do the battle if we can set it up real time face to face in a real place with the OG Digitones, are you down for that? I live southwest of Sweden but could travel to Denmark, Gothenburg, Malmö if you’re truley down!?

Send me a PM or whatever and we’ll try to get this down! I’m up for the challenge!

Also, love your post!

Ps. Anyone else living close that wanna do a battle face 2 face hit me up! :call_me_hand:

Ps. Also very down for a OG Digitakt battle…

My piano only has one sound, no aftertouch or modulation and could beat all of you.

In seriousness I echo the sentiment of this in the fact that I’m starting to see complexity and features as a turning off point with new music equipment. I actually hesitate even on the Digitakt II as I feel like I’ll be overwhelmed with choice. Fewer features is often more creativity.

Less strings on guitars !
Too much polyphony on regular ones…

Ah sorry if so ! I heard Lisa. :content:

My MPC 500 is lighter !

Not true ! High velocity definition, sustain pedal, damper pedal, possibly to hit strings differently, wood, add harmonics !
My piano is ready for that…

Yeah I wasn’t sure about that but decided it sounded more serious than sarcastic :see_no_evil:.

Damn. If your feelings for ppl you don’t know and might never meet are so deep, maybe you should spend more time making music instead of browsing the internet?!

As far as titles…

There are 3 kings of FM - the rest is noise.

  1. Ess
  2. Autechre
  3. Autechre

Nuff said!

What I’ve learned in this thread is that if you aren’t a YT personality you are not really making music

I haven’t. But I’m really enjoying the simplicity as compared to the newer MPCs. I had a 2500 for a while a few years ago but didn’t get into it properly. Picked this one up last October for a great price, cleared everything off my desk except 2500 & 404mk2, and sat in front of them most days since then. I think it’s the perfect size & complexity for building muscle memory, and feeling like I can understand it properly is doing a few good things:

  • gives me confidence and enjoyment in using it
  • gives me satisfaction learning or figuring out tricks and workarounds when it doesn’t have a feature I want
  • frees up my brain to think creatively instead of all my bandwidth going on trying to understand the machine
