My Digitone still sounds better than your Digitone II

I like a lot the gear mentioned in this thread.

Also, if no one else wants to wear the crown I will. BEER KING. :beers:

Is Digitone Keys allowed ?

I guess you didn’t put JJOS2XL, because you loose simplicity with it !

the problem with a online/yt battle is that anyone can have their paid cheerleaders attending - the western style is better!

Ha! Yes, JJOS free is doing me fine just now

Oh geez, according this thread that’s a lousy prize. Might as well not win anything at all.

I consider myself a special case, in that the OG is really all I need. I make accompaniments for my students. The purpose of an accompaniment is only to clarify, to draw attention to the melody (played by beginners sawing away on their violins). Artistically, anything more than that is merely there to keep my own interest in the process fresh.

One way to regard the complexity of a system is to draw relationship lines between pairs of its features. Each line represents an opportunity for inquiry into the relationship between two parts. As the number of features grows arithmetically, the number of relationship lines grows geometrically. But the number of hours in the day still remains 24. And the ignorance of the system grows at a faster rate than the knowledge of the system.

Artistically, I believe using overly complex systems of gear…results in music making that is more tactical than strategic. The tactician knows what each part of the system does and is able to use those parts to produce some kind of result. But, without the deeper understanding of the interrelations of parts, the tactician is doomed to use the parts in the same-old same-old fashion as every other tactician in the world, producing un-extraordinary results.

The strategist, on the other had, understands the relationship of the parts. They are more likely to produce something interesting and new.

While my understanding of the relationship of the parts of the OG is modest, it has definitely improved over the four years I’ve been using it, practically on a daily basis. As a slow learner, I am fearful about owning complex gear. DAWs, for example, scare me.

That sucks!

Sounds great. Have you been sampling vinyl into it?

The OG Digitone is special to me. It was my first re-entry into the world of hardware and my first real synth (the W-30 is obviously more of a sampler).

But to me it fits in a different setup than the Digitone 2. The OG needs a companion to shine if you want to make full tracks on it, whereas the DN2 can more easily stand on its own. Doesn’t mean the OG can’t, it’s just more work to get there.

I’ve only had the DN2 for a couple of weeks but I don’t think I’d be able to recreate this on the OG.

Doesn’t mean the OG isn’t still awesome though.

@hseiken-HSI this sounds really nice, and has the best hihat sound out of digitone i’ve heard (at least to my liking) any tips regarding the hihat sound in particular?

Unfunniest post of the fun-poking synth nerd thread…
Maybe the most abrasive.

OG Digitone brings all the synths to the yard
And they’re like, it’s better than yours
Damn right it’s better than yours

Is that the debate now? But yes, I haven’t played at parties. Only in front of a few cows once.

I used to do piano recitals way back when. But I have never played electronic music for people.

I’m open to it. I got invited to play an art show in Paris, but it was right after I sold my synth, and hadn’t built another yet.

I’d love to play for that sort of thing. I would enjoy playing a two Elektron+mixer set for a chill crowd.

Ww have huge parties at my house in the summer. Occasionally a sub crowd will come into the studio with me and I’ll build up some music on the fly for them. It’s kind of fun actually.

I wish I lived nearby because I’d totally come to battle you.
Unfortunately, I live in the states. However, there is a chance I could be relocating to Europe at some point in the next 6 years, so I will assume your invitation will be standing.

Peace, brother in FM. But just know, I will not hold back when we get into the ring.

Perfect prize, actually. First place is an Analogue Heat to pump up that FM to unreal levels. It’s the equivalent of being the best weapons master…and being given Soul Calibur.

Yes, keys are allowed. Why wouldn’t they be? It’s still 8 voices, still digitone.
