My Digitone still sounds better than your Digitone II

I’m so tired of people thinking that throwing more polypohy or more processor power will fix your songs…

STOP.

It doesn’t fix your song, it just placates your lack of desire to get something done.

LOVE YOU ALL, THIS IS A LOVE MESSAGE.

I’m from the battle rap mentality of gear usage…

If i’m using half the power and getting better results than the folks with the better power?

Well…

If no one else wants to wear the crown I will. FM KING.

And I AM the best FM mofo around. Elektron will send gear to folks doing dub tech and other easy stuff…but they know if they sent it to me, i’d make the gear impossible to sell cause i’d rock it too hard.

Truth. This track? Only like 2 other folks can rock like this and neither of them got Digitone II’s for promos… Cause they’re too good…imagine if your gear looked 20x better than it does for the average user on a promo? You can’t sell that…

We’re in a class of our own…

That class is ‘MENTAL’. Everyone else is just ‘users’.

We can battle. …I won’t give up my creds, but in terms of FM, been doing it longer than CTrix has known what a YM2151 is.

That said, music style is another thing…

I wonder where this discussion will go.
Not fond of the tone but I might be lacking humor.
Lets try yo stay respectful at each other and have fun pushing it harder.

I’m summoning @jeanne: someone might have not heard your tracks yet

It is definitely all in gest and about pushing usage of gear harder.

That said, I will battle anyone on my digitone I against their digitone II.

And i think anyone with any digitone SHOULD join a damn beat battle! Making tunes on your gear with just that gear in constraints of style or whatever…you’re never going to get GOOD at your gear until you get pushed to do so…

Battles make you stronger at using your machine.

I’m here to push anyone to get better.

SO LETS GO.

But but…
Will the DN2 at least bring my wife back when I’m instagram famous ?

And by the way, I will name the people I personally think are on or above my level in terms of digitone:

Ivar Tryti
The Janitor
Cantenation

That’s it. That’s my short list. You might put EZ Bot in there, maybe Cuckoo, but I dont’ count them mostly because of their format and approach.

See, my list…they do many, not just one offs, but several tracks on JUST the DN. And they kick ass and sound more than a digitone. They soudn more than FM.

That’s where the point is…none of them got a promo machine. THey’re better on the machine than even me, frankly, and here I am challenging folks to get better.

SO…take on this what you will…

It’s funny, but serious. It’s joking but truthful.

Also, folks from ELektron know what I mean when I say I’m coming from the demoscene, the trackerscene…it’s push the hardware, don’t thrown hardware at failure.

That was the perfect sentence !
Nice track ! Remind me Street of Rage 2 ! And that’s obviously a compliment !

I’m Fist of the FM Star.

I want to be friends. But I will not hesitate if you challenge me.

In terms of making actual tracks, @ylva is definitely missing from that list!

Which brings us to the question: what would this battle even be about? Making the „best“ music? Making the weirdest, most complex sounds?

Personally, I don’t care about maxing out machines. DN 2 gives me 16 tracks, so I can just use 8-10 of them and have drums plus melodies on one machine without getting a headache from programming everything on four tracks. That’s enough reason for me to buy a DN2. But it‘s cool seeing what people can do with just four tracks of DN.

“Personally I don’t care about maxing out machines”.

Cool. NEXT.

*it’s not a slight on you, this is a work, kid… *

I love it when people treat music making like 80s arcade gaming competition with minimal sense of irony. :bell::partying_face:

I come from a time…when youtube wasn’t a place to get free gear by doing pedestrian algorithmic manipulations in order to sell for companies.

No…I come from a time when…the music was important, but the gear…the gear was the tool to show your power levels of destruction. If you could level a city block with sick bass using a simple 6 voice sampler, you were force to be reckoned with.

BUt now, it’s different. Everyone fights…shadows. They don’t fight real battles, but instead do katas and pretend to be warriors…and are rewarded by temple masters.

THis isn’t the way. This isn’t the discipline that we fought for in the youtube gear space.

We fought for disicipline, integrity and bass. We developed our skills to create need for gear to be saught as a tool for learning the craft of making necks break and feet tangle, the art of setting fire to a place without using a single match or flammable material other than speakers and gear.

But no, the landscape today…it’s not about sharpening skills in a dojo.

It’s about…selling karate lessons.

What is this world?

Everyone fighting for a glass of water…but the true refreshment is in the act of discovering the well.

As the Talking Heads pointed out…we’re on a road to nowhere…come on and ride.

But me…i’m here for the combat. The strife. The challenge. WHERE. ARE. THE. WARRIORS.

I seem to notice a certain pop act has fallen out of favor because another pop act pointed out their lack of skill.

INteresting. That might be lost to those outside of the US, though.

I hoped, OG at least showed up with a banger :frowning:

I know you’re being playful but I tend to agree with at least some of this. Without doubt there are some youtubers who push the gear, but for every one of those there are 1000 “basic bitch” surface scratchers, who have larger audiences.

But to counter this, there are also some technically interesting but musically boring noise wank random nonsense merchants out there.

It is all a matter of preference, and perhaps a fine line to balance.
