Hah and here I am pretty much never using clippers at all thinking this should be a stock device
I hear you. However, on 3.0, you can load another track with the drum program you want and copy the events of the track you want to play that program. You can leave that track muted and then unmute it when you want to hear it.
Basically, you can still do what you did before but a little differently: it will require an extra track and adding those samples into RAM. You could even automate that switch if you wanted to or do it live via track mutes.
Iām used to the same workflow youāre talking about, I get it. Iāve been exploring 3.0 and I like it so far. Itās definitely different and I think the arranger is overhyped but Iāve been experimenting with streaming audio from my SD card and so far, itās game changer.
I can still work using sequences and then use song mode. Somehow, I think people think that has it changed⦠it has not.
Iāve created macros internally in the Q-link edit area. It actually works better than I expected.
Iāll be honest and say that my expectations for 3.0 are/have been low but there are things that have been pleasant surprises⦠macros is one of them.
You can also create macros that can be controlled via the XY controls.
The only thing I felt was lacking when I had my One+ (Iāll be rebuying one soon, waiting to see if we get a new special edition or upgrades with 3.0ā¦) is the reverbs. I really didnāt get on with themā¦
Especially when compared to something like the dark reverb on the OT which is lush.
Iād really like to see a comprehensive āAir Reverb Proā or similar at some point soon.
I tried that as well and was blown away by how well it worked. Really great for using with effects and controlling multiple parameters. What I was wondering is whether it would be possible to then control those (Macros) with an external control, in order to have more than four knobs at once.
I think I am just going to have to set aside some time with a MIDI controller to see how it works. I have a Launch Control (OG) somewhere that I need to find and give it a whirl.
Ohh word, this is something people have been asking for quite awhile now? I gotta try this when I get homeā¦
Momentary is the name of the game for me when it comes to the q link macros. So dope
Ah, I see what you mean. I havenāt tried it but I can give it a try later.
I agree⦠having options to flip and adjust the percentage is also unexpected.
I as a Force user that came from the the MPC I was trying to explain this about the programs & the arranger not being what as great of change, Tho itās nice as an overall view of everything. I still think 3.0 needs a clip-matrix to really take it to the next level. But Iāve been reading people unconsciously asking for it without specifically ask for it.
Yeah, it works really well. You can also rename the macros once you have them set up. When creating a macro you also have the option of using an existing macro, basically, allowing you to copy them.
Weāll have to see what Akai chooses to do with clips. As of now, theyāre not part of 3.0. They didnāt really work for me on the MPC because I think the Force is more suited to clip launching. A 4x4 grid just didnāt work for me. Whatās working for me now is streaming audio from the disk. Iām streaming big chunky multi-minute WAV files and the CPU is NOT taking a hit. Iām using complex macros with lots of effects⦠Iām really just trying to see what it can do.
Back to clips:
I would be interested to see how it could be implemented in 3.0.
Oh ya of course. But, as you said, you lose tracks. I would have 3 or 4 kits loaded. Then add to that, using midi tracks to play tracks for mutes or to prevent cutting off the sound, and tracks suddenly get scarce.
Not hacking on 3. I think itās great.
If youāre using tracks (drum programs), you donāt have a limit of tracks. You only have a limit on audio tracks. And now, since you can reorder tracks, you could restructure a project to your liking.
Also, I want to reiterate, Iām used to the same workflow you are, Iām just seeing how some of these things can be done in 3.0.
Here a macro tip I learned on the Force. If you have edit all selected on the track/program editor & use MIDI learn, it will assign all 128 pads on that macro. Just know if you want to delete it you have to delete each 1 by 1 or just delete the whole track.
What I also did was make macro tracks customized for my ext gear & save them as individual tracks to be quickly loaded. Itās also best to a have template project with all these tracks to save time. I have one project that 16 MIDI tracks for the RS7000, 16 for the EMU 2500, 8 for the MC707, 8 plugin tracks which doesnāt have anything assigned to them until I use them, 11 MIDI tracks (to keep it even with 8 to I put the last 3 track towards the end of the track list) for the TR8S, than 8 audio tracks. Finally Iāll put my drum tracks. Keeping everything in multiples of 8 helps to keep track looking organized on the 8x8 clip matrix & mixer scene. I never know how many drum/keygroup tracks Iāll need so I put them last.
It was tedious AF setting all this up, especially since I took the time to give each track macro knobs their own unique name like so I can easily identify it. Like 01-RS-Cutoff, 01-EMU-Cutoffā¦
Itās pretty good indeed. Iām finding that it improves my mixes. Mostly due to my previous ignorance about soft clippers, but this plugin makes it easy to dial it in and put it before the compressor to tame the peaks.
Iām obsessed with clippers, both digital and analog. I think Elektron is very behind with incorporating cool FX like these; a transient shaper would be nice too. Even the Dirtywave M8 has clippers.
Dude Conan is on a roll. I love that he speak with that YouTuber trying to get new subs voice - you know what Iām talking aboutā¦
The Elektron Analog Heat (and the +FX) is pretty much the best clipping/saturation tool on the market.
Agreed man I like the cut of his gib too, no nonsense straight up advice, he reminds me of tubedigga in that regard, just someone who blatantly likes what heās doingā¦
