Thanks i could have make it, i was so happy to see it that i wanted to share asap!
Welcome back to the hardware game Akai-MPC
Iād love to be excited about this, the Eclipse is not up my ally but the Touch has a very desirable feel to it and I can easily imagine it on my desk.
But Iām a bit wary of Akai and how the quality of the OS could be.
Oh boy, you got one of the the Linn originals, sweet! Bet it sounds awesome.
Iād love to try one someday. You got it modded with the zip drive (or was that mod for the other models?)
The Live is genuine but the so-called Eclipse is just a doctored photo of the Ren. Everything about it is the same except for the screen, which is fake. Look at the inset where the screen would clip flat intoā¦same small size as the Renaissance. Itās bollocks.
Not 100% sure about that myself. Did you happen to see the microsoft presentation video from a year or two ago? They were showing off an MPC that ran on windows embedded OS, without a computer, and even that prototype looked very much like the ren.
Anyway if Eclipse is a fake and LIVE genuineā¦ iām ok with that let see when, how it comes ā¦ and what is inside exactly
Not seen that vid (now lookingš). I believe that machine is coming but I do doubt thatās the photo of it.
(just gotta watch the new cuckoo arturia vid first though!)
Donāt throw anything at me, but I sold my Octatrack to partially fund an MPC 1000 a few months back. I love the MPC way of working. Especially working in song mode.
This news about the new hardware is exciting. My gripe with my Ren is you canāt really send a tight midi clock to hardware. I use the 1000 for that. But thereās a lot of potential to combine what was cool with the software now in all hardware units.
A little expensive thoughā¦
If the price will be 899, not that expensive in my book. What sampler can you buy that has a touchscreen, 2GB of RAM, USB3 and SSD capability for that price?
Yep. Not to mention polyphonic tracks + rechargable battery + USB midi input + Daw integration/controller etc etc. This + Op1 + ipad = sofa powerhouse If they donāt bodge the software port itās a no-brainer for my current circumstances.
For a long time Iāve been thinking where the f#*K is a new sampler that upgrades the old specs relative to modern tech advancement etc at a reasonable price. The korg es2 bugged me a lot with the tiny memory etc. OT was probably fair enough price when it was released, but not being able to handle polyphonic tracks in this day and age and no easy way to export 8 live stems to daw was still a disappointment. Toraiz price/features is a joke. Akai look like theyāve reset the bar with the MPC Live re what features/ui should be expected at this price in 2016. Finallyā¦
Been watching some Touch videos - that screen sure lags a bit at times and thatās when in working as a simple controller. Not saying it is unusable but in this day and age of super responsive iPad apps I can see myself getting pissed off at times with the Touch/Lives user experience.
Will be interesting to see if having proper guts inside makes a difference to speed/responsiveness vs Touch relying on data flow to/from a PC.
Hadnāt noticed lag on videos but yeah, if itās noticeable in use itās going to feel lame/cheap. My daughters cheap tablet is horrible to use when the lag kicks inā¦ Although youād hope most of the key functions were done via physical controls with the touchscreen there mainly for overflowā¦ Hopefully some videos show up soon.
We have seen this kind of design already at the Microsoft presentation 2014
That would be my cup of tea, definitely ā¦
I remember reading about that lag but also that it was fixed but I canāt remember where I got that info.
I agree though that touchscreen needs to be instant or it defeats the object.
Iām confident that this thing will deliver the goods, Iām going to have to pay up soon as possible, Iām willing to buy the ticket and take the rideā¦
I just see the MPC Live as MPCPro (iOS) in a hardware device with a very connectable midi Sequencer strapped on, even at 2kxl level this thing will be everywhere.
Good enough for me!
Yeah think Iām onboard too. Prob sell my sp555/Microsampler/volca sample to pay for half of itā¦
Depending on the Akai OS features/fx quality Iāll keep OT + OG Sp404ā¦
Hyped to see some videos of this thing and a full manual appear.
Edit - hope itās reasonably solid build/kid proofā¦can see this being permanently on my sofaā¦
Yeah gots to keep your OT and sp404, classics! The 4 in particular with the MPC for stacking fx and resampling, and even complete mixes you perform, if you donāt mind the slight loss of quality (I donāt!).
I reckon the build quality should be roadworthy, these things will be slung in backpacks and suitcases the world over, maybe just a sleeve to protect it but there will be cases and alsorts probably.
Iāve got so much Fizzy Bubblech for this Iām burping already!
