If Windows is inside, also plug-ins will be inside… sounds very cool to me
Dunno if they’ll choose to host vst, even if it’s potentially possible, how would they deal with something like Omnisphere, a ton of pages/parameters/knobs etc? Would be very cool if they’ve figured out a way to make it happen tho and in a way that doesn’t feel like a nightmare to program…
I think you can connect a computer, but you can play without (and dont have to freeze the vst tracks)
Guess we’ll see… I think it’ll be more along lines of automatically disabling all vsts when standalone. Just seems like a minefield of potential hassle for them otherwise. Would love to be wrong tho
I stand (massively) corrected. Bugger
Windows embedded is not the same as the regular windows we are using with our computers. If they don’t port the libs/frameworks/dependencys that running VST’s require, then they will not work.
The UI’s would not work adequately on a 7" inch screen in any case. I see to many problems and issues with this one tbh
Anyone on here used current mpc touch/ren software etc? Is there a p-lock type function?
I think that VST-hosting is really wishful thinking. I love to be wrong, but it doesn’t really make sense for them to host plugins inside this box - too much hassle and issues.
Nonetheless it looks really interesting. I was thinking about buying MPC for some time to sequence my synths and this is looking very promising. I just have to fight my association that MPC equals hip-hop .
That would make it an instant buy for me. I’m very excited about this new portable mpc.
i know, it’s off-topic, so don’t burn me: it’s time for
OCTATRACK MK.2
there is competition out there and more to come
I am obligated to “like” anytime someone mentions an OT2
Yup, Wakey Wakey Elektron…
Beware guys, or I’ll reanimate the hidden thread !!!
(I too can’t help but like OT2 mentions)
Still, this MPC Live thing seems very interesting.
I agree that hosting existing VSTs would be problematic. But they could release their own SDK for VSTs specific to their platform to be written. It could offer features that take into account the hardware, resource limitations, and tools to easily build a usable UI.
I miss that thread.
I miss my secret friends.
I am hyped for this! Sold my OT, never could click with it. Secretly was hoping Elektron was working on an OT2 when the Heat was announced. The Heat is dope, and I really really want one, but I’m glad I have my schmeckles saved up. Will be definitely ordering one of these!
Yeah - it’s unlikely, but possible. But I think that for a first standalone product in some time they have many other things to work on.
If the rumoured prices are right at $899 and $2000, that’s a hefty gap… Besides the obvious hardware difference there’s gonna have to be some internal additions on the Eclipse… Hoping there’s not going to be some major crippling somewhere on the Live like only monophonic tracks or weaker/fewer fx selection etc…
A price under 1000 isn’t gonna happen IMO.
I bought once a mpc2500jjos and never really used it, so I sold it. I recon it was a great ITB DAW/sampler/midi sequencer, but at these times I didn’t really use samples lol
Now I’m fully octatracked, and back to using samples…
I can’t even begin to imagine what could do an OT+MPCLive combo… Here could be my OT2!!
more samples, more tracks, more MIDI, more moar…
One could even imagine using the mpc midi sequencer to write automations for the OT (I’m in a phase where I try to arrange and record the patterns I wrote on the OT, and try to automate stuff with scenes, but thus is not proper “automation” !!)
I don’t see why it’s that unlikely to be under $1000…Surely tech is getting cheaper every year. My phone has 4gb ram and 32gb storage + memory card reader etc. And the Akai OS was basically already written so less R&D costs in that area. You can get a decent akai pad controller for around £100. And average audio interfaces with 4+ channels can be found super cheap now too… Companies can’t really keep charging insane amounts for approx the same level of tech/cpu hit etc. If old mpc had ton of tracks and polyphony etc and Roland Sp404 had great fx etc then the same stuff (with some bells and whistles on top) should be achievable for far less expense today? Unless I’m missing something…
