Dan’s on crack. I too got the pdf manual and did not find it.

i really think visually the MPC-Live is a beautiful piece of industrial design. It looks solid and hefty and oh so very zaphod beetlebrox black… like blacker than the inside of a black hole black. Though I do scratch my head about the orientation. I am right handed and would prefer the pads on the right side. I find that when using ipads I tend to use my left hand to make selections on touch screens… So the Live is the wrong way round for me.

All P-locks are not created equal! Yes the speed of entering them is vital, triggerless locks are also an important ingredient. But most important for a guy like me into sound-fuckery is the variety of parameters you can lock. I played around with MPC1.8 and yes you can do Automation locks but the list of destinations is limited. As far as I know this has not been changed in 2.0. On the OT I can lock to a start location in a sample, I can lock the actual sample used, I can lock loop length etc. etc. I don’t see a prospect of AKAI adding these more esoteric lock destinations.

A feature i have always wanted on the OT locks was to be able to quickly define the slew time for the parameter change that is being locked… then one could build sequences of locks that glided between values.

Also watching that vid… the 16 levels feature is great and all but you have a choice of only 5 parameteres that can be arrayed… why can’t I choose to apply 16 levels to say the reverb length of a verb on the program or pad? So I could array a snare with 16 degrees of verb tail… to play… why restrict it to pitch, velocity, attack, decay, cutoff… and also to array more than one parameter at a time… so verb length spread of 16 pads together with distortion amount of a distortion fx and with teh option to invert the arraying of the parameter… so as I play up the pads the verb gets longer but the distortion amount drops… and so on

Dan is saying that at gearslutz because the guys over there are begging for p-locks for the Live. I kinda knew he doesn’t know what he said, so I thought I confirm with the real heads who know Elektron featuresšŸ˜€

I have spent a great deal of time comparing the available specification san information on the AKAI Live and Digitakt and despite owning an A4 and a RYTM I have pre-ordered the Akai Live.

The big 7inch touch screen, battery powered (5-6 hours) and things like the clip launch, SD slot (and 2 USB inc plug and play USB keyboard) etc just make it a much more desirable product to me. I watched the full 2 hour video on how to use Live on ASK and it seems really well though out and very powerful, I love the ableton live style clip launch as well, basically I am just not seeing anything wrong with this MPC/Drum machine for the price…only wish the Live had the CV out, but I can live without it for the portability…

Motion Sequence is real time recording of everything, from parameter changes, effects to hitting the pads. All data is recorded as you manipulate the machine.

There are external MIDI->CV boxes. They add to the price but this is option if you have modular system and don’t want to get the X.

He said he had an A4, that qualifies as a midi-cv converter

I use to use the A4 a lot with the synapse module in my Eurorack but last month I cracked an bought an expert sleepers ES-8…I use it with Bitwig 2 (and CV Toolkit) and its great…so…I don’t ā€˜need’ more CV, but you cant have too many  8 CV on standard Euro jacks (no 1/4 inch TRS converters etc) is very generous on the ā€˜x’, would have been nice to just have qa couple for sync on the Live- It has 6 outputs, I wonder if they are DC Coupled

Any suggestions for good Midi>CV boxes to sit next to live?

Thinking those doepfer dark links look best bang for buck with a nice big glide knob on the front too : )

Have you seen they have added midi in/out sockets for the Disting Mk 4? http://www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/
stand alone try this: https://www.tindie.com/products/hotchk155/cvocd-a-super-flexible-midi-to-cv-box/

Thanks, I don’t use euro but, Yeah that cv OCD looks like the one I think !! Cheers : )

Akai confirmed that they will be adding midi over USB-A ports so this is a good news for OP-1 users :sunny:

I guess this means we could also control iPad synths without needing an interface or USB-MIDI cable - only the camera connection kit… right?

Sorry for the off-topic but i will share video on sampling history. Some of you might like it:

Let’s get to the important questions here: Can I configure the pad colors to change randomly and rapidly?
