when assigning samples to pads in the B group, the sample preview would sometimes stop working, i would try a different sample, a different pad to trigger its sound and that would not sound either, its like all sound stops working sometimes when this happens, the only way to keep going was to save and turn it off, re open project, then i can hear sound again and can assign samples to pads again.
this did not happen on the A group, it happened 5 times on B group though
quite odd
i like that you can layer up to 4 samples for a sound in a kit, thats more polyphonic than octatrack or paraphonic i suppose but still
Just curious how people are/will be integrating the Digitakt and Live?
I am interested in both, but wondering if that’s overkill. The MPC would be particularly useful to me as I could use it as a multitrack and it can work as a guitar looper.
On the other hand, I really like the simplicity and directness of the Digitakt, so I’m tying to justify both. Lol.
Hmmm, If you have the funds too do so, I guess the only way you’ll know, is buy both and if you find It’s overkill, keep the one you prefer, : )
Both would be overkill for me, but I am not sure how much gear you have and your integration plans. I mean if you have cash lying around surely the X is a consideration, full fledged MPC with a tons of Qlinks & CV outs. I think the X would sit better in a setup with the DT.
Saying all that I only have a DT preordered and no more money.
You guessed right. Gonna use the Live as a multitrack studio production center and the Digitakt gonna be my bottom sampler churning out beats galore. I’m all about standalones. I know I can make beats on the MPC but I like taking its beat making abilities and using them as DAW functions, for example, did you see how Andy Mac chopped the waveform and rearranged them back to one sample? Imagine doing that to vocals and choruses for a song.
Digitakt is that dirty little sampler I always wanted and dream about. I thought Roland would do it, nope. I thought Akai would do it, uh-uh. Korg, almost but nowhere near.
id avoid getting both at the same time if I were you, tho tempting it can be. from my experience you learn much slower using 2 new units simultaneously, and I also end up not using either to their maximum.
when I focus on 1 piece I really get to grips with it, get really creative with it n really master it. that’s the point I’d then consider getting the other machine.
just mi 2c
I absolutely agree about getting two things at once. I’ve made that mistake before! I’m leaning toward getting the Digitakt first because it is the more interesting of the two for me, but since my original plan was to get the Live, I need to figure out a few workarounds for things I had been planning (particularly recording since the Live was going to be my multitrack for guitar/bass). I do have a little multitrack that could get me by for a while though.
X is too big for my space. I prefer compact stuff. I don’t really need the CV although it would be nice.
I hear you man. I’m also an OTB guy. Computers give me a headache. I think the answer is to get both. Probably Digitakt first, but I guess availability could determine it, since both are such hot items and I’m cautiously waiting to see more from both before buying.
Live is still pretty big, but yeah X is a Big Daddy.
This is a quote from Akai’s Dan Gill:
“The MPC equivalent to parameter locks classically has been something called note variation. You can vary a note by pitch, filter, attack, decay and other parameters on a per note basis. MPC Live can do this, and it can also be recorded in realtime, by moving knobs when record is on and automation is enabled.”
Maschine has the equivalent of parameter locks too. It’s really not the elektron exclusive feature people seem to refer to it as.
Thanks for sharing this. Any idea how you do ‘note variation’ in MPC Live? I didn’t see it in the manual when I skimmed it and have never seen it in a video. Wondering what the method is? And what parameters are available?
I don’t believe it’s anything like P-Locks. Just automation with the qlink for some parameters. It’s not like you can press on a STEP and tweak a q-link in the mpc right?
Maybe Dan have never touched elektron box
Yeah, I have some doubts that ‘note variation’ is really comparable to p-locks in terms of speed and flexibility (multiple parameters etc) but interested to know the workflow/potential uses.
The real-time recording is basically what Korg calls motion sequencing, right?
Well, you record tweaking a qlinik with assigned param to it. I believe that is what he is talking about. The usual suspects are filter, tune, envelopes(a,d,s & r), sample start/end, slice, layer, velocity, tempo, level, pan, lfo->pitch, lfo->filter, flo->level, lfo speed…
Maybe there is a way to record that per “step” based on the grid but I imagine you will need to stop the sequencer(or nail the timing while runing), go with the cursor there, press overdub and tweak the value you want for selected param.
Or maybe tap and hold on the grid in the screen and tweak the qlink(doubt that)?
Maybe I’m wrong, we will see about that.
Se let’s not spread the “MPCs have P-Locks” rumor.
Dang, all this talk of plocks just makes me want an octatrack again instead.
Maybe the solution is just own ALL the samplers.
