I don’t get the “oh another 2 OSC mono synth from Moog” criticism. The depth of sequencer, wavefolding, bass compensation resonance, feedback, modulation options - this is something 99% of “another 2 osc” synths on the market don’t have bundled in one package, at not too steep price too (considering Moog and everything bundled).
This looks like killer synth for all indie / synth incorporating bands - range of sounds, form factor, accessibility of controls etc. Would be great if it came in desktop version though.
I’m not so keen on the design, it looks ok-ish, but lacks that classic Moog factor, something is just off for me.
I really like this thing but… That wavefolder had got to be the worst sounding one I have ever heard… it just sounds like a nasely pulse width… Do all the moog wavefolders sound that bad? Like on the Mavis and whatever else has one from Moog?
The bottom of the thing is cheap plastic… Cry… This doesn’t feel like Moog…
This synth is pretty much exactly what I’ve wanted from Moog. I’m not interested in semi modular and the phatty format doesn’t appeal to me with features buried under key combos. If this thing sounds right in person, I’m in.
The look has a novation vibe for sure but I don’t think it’s as bad as people are making it out to be.
I feel like the wave folding just being a triangle being folded in the wave shaper section is kind of disappointing when they are touting wave folding as a feature… like it’s still nice that it is there but if they had like implemented a wavefolder that you could inject into pre or post filter it would have been an amazing feature… and actual proper wave folding
+1. One knob for wavefolder amount, one knob for waveshape already gives you soo much to play with. Now add modulation, the filter and a pre/post switch for the waveshaper and this thing would have been soo much more flexible.
I know, flexibility doesn’t necessarily have to be the goal in a synth, but feels like this would have made Messenger a much more interesting synth.
Was about to buy a sub 25 at the reduced £699 price a few days ago but didn’t really like the shape of it so dithered. This does look like a sequential rip off visually but I’m ok with that. I think I might be their target audience. It looks a bit like a modern day version of the Rogue.
I get your point but it is still a Moog after all. a wave folded triangle as one of your wave shapes is still quite cool to have within this format, and does add timbres that wouldn’t otherwise be available.
You think that’s the right choice? For some reason I was thinking curry sauce. Good I just bought a tube of red&white…
But I’ll keep my word. I’ll post a short video or photo of me eating a Monologue.
Re: The world doesn’t need another 2 osc mono synth:
And as much as I like to see innovative products, I don’t see it as a bad thing when a company sticks to what they are used to doing and what they can do well. Also, you guys probably can relate to how small things can be in the way, like there’s a button you frequently have to use just out of reach or something like that.
There’s always something that can be improved and a boring ass 2 osc synth can be so much more fun than the newest sampling drum machine with granular that comes with a built in roadmap to fix bugs for the next two years.
