Minilogue XD

holy cow, it only took me two years to figure that out …

why in the wild world of sports they wouldn’t make that the default setting is beyond me. oh well, maybe i need to spend more time in the menus :grinning:

Yeah, the manual that actually came with it was pretty short, so if you don’t have the pdf file, here’s a copy for you, right quick. minilogue_xd_OM_E1a.pdf (2.6 MB)

I just noticed the other night that my B3 key is slightly dead … it still works if key pressure is direct down or slightly to the left on the key, but if key pressure is slightly to right the Minilogue doesn’t register the note.

I assume it is dust or corrosion that some rubbing alcohol can resolve. Looks like getting the cover off requires removing all the knobs and a pain … does anyone have any quick troubleshooting tips to try first? I wasn’t sure if it was a good idea to blast air in it as that may cause more problems possibly.

Thankyou glad you liked it. I do plan on doing more if these. Got one up just now which starts off with showing you how to display the parameters.

Hi guys, what are the alternatives to Minilogue XD?
I’m looking for a more portable Hybrid polysynth (Analogue,Va + Wavetable/sample player), maybe more polyphony… Same price range

I have bought an XD from Thomann the past month , and I like it a lot, I am asking because i have few days to return this unit.
I think with this and the Syntakt, I am covered, but i was also looking for a Jd08 beacuse of polyphony ,multitimbrality and form factor, but i would loose the custom oscillator wich is a great feauture.

I had a Blofeld in the past, but it was glitchy and less immediate , so i would exclude it

Micromonsta + Keystep37 ? Could be cool

Yesterday I’ve got the minilogue XD module. This thing sounds quite different than everything I’ve got before. If I had to describe it I would say the XD sounds dark, raw, aggressive and somewhat hard - korg-hardness. The oscillators are beefy - wow - the filter is just 12db but quite different from other’s, envelopes are snappy
Let’s see where the journey leads

Congrats! I’ve had my XD module for just shy of three years and I can still spend hours getting lost in it. (Accurate description of its sonic character, by the way.) Would buy another in a heartbeat if anything happened to it.

I agree, I just love that filter. It’s so gritty and raw compared to any of the filters on my Hydrasynth or MPC Live 2.

Those oscillators are so powerful, i couldn’t get this with the A4. Yes, the filter is amazing, I’m just listening to it for hours. The effects are also gorgeous! I think this synth is very well structured, a streamlined slightly minimalistic immediate hands-on design. I didn’t dig in far enough into the multi-engine but the idea is awesome - Elektron could learn from this. After so many years of using the A4 it feels and sounds quite refreshing to my ears.

It doesn’t have all those modulation-option like the Elektrons (including the sequencer) but that doesn’t bother me.

I’m quite curious how the drumlogue is doing then. It has also this minimalistic design and less parameters than the AR.

my minilogue xd m has been for several years now. I think this is a good synth, but the filter did not satisfy me, the sound was a bit tired. and yesterday my xd got a new companion from elta music.

this is awesome, new life for xd!

I added the mini to my setup initially just for the polyphony. And based on having had several korg volcas which sound very good for being tantamount to toys. So I was confident the sound of the minilogue would be quality.

I’ve been producing music for about a year with this and it is maybe the most versatile piece in my kit. It certainly can play all the parts as needed. It’s sound is subtle; I had to learn how to listen to it in order to pull our the flavor.

It jives well withy moog, elektron and eurorack gear. Though I would like to have more cv connections.

Haven’t once considered getting rid of replacing it. It plays nicely.

Hey everyone,

I remember in my Novation X-Station there was quite a range of arpeggiator patterns, and I’m wondering if there’s a way of downloading/programming such arp patterns in the XD? Seems like a reasonable possibility given we can download custom oscillators, right?

Appreciate any guidance!

Cheers

Got some Chroma Caps on order for my XD … I’m going to try to disassemble my XD and clean my keys to see if that fixes my slightly dead B3 key that I referenced in this thread on June 26th.

Can anyone confirm on how to remove the Korg knobs? Any special tools that can be recommended? Do you just pull them off or is there a set screw that needs to be loosened that I don’t see? Figure I would ask before making a major mistake.

I found a video for the disassembly of a Minilogue (I assume the XD is similar) and those appear to pull off, but haven’t found anything in regards to disassembly of a Minilogue XD.

It’s time for some fresh information regarding the Minilogue XD  I’ve just published 150 new patches for the synth. Something for the fans of Boards of Canada, Tycho, Tame Impala etc. Minilogue is quite limited in terms of modulation but I’m happy with the results.

Check the video demo below. You will find the link to the details in the description of the video:

These are phenomenal :+1:

agreed, these are great. i don’t think i’ve ever heard the minilogue sound like this!

Will pick this up for sure. They sound great! And no use of third party OSC’s! Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but can get difficult to manage.

Your patches are the reason I have a Circuit Tracks :grinning: I better not listen to the new ones because I am afraid I‘ll be getting a minilogue xd

I have seen that you have already announced a set of patches for the microfreak and I am really looking forward to that!

Keep up the fantastic work!

Or you could thank them for not having to buy a Rev2 or Deluge after hearing the glorious patches for these machines .

I’m sure you can learn a lot about how to make these on basically any synth by studying how it’s done on a synth with so few parameters.
