Minilogue XD

Also not quite the answer you are looking for, but I’ve had a similar issue with a variety of power supplies. My solutions have included:

  • double stick foam tape to attach the power supply to the underside of the desk. This is great for monitors that never move, but not so good for other things
  • I put some screws into the bottom of the desk so the power strip could hook in place, then put a third screw in to keep the strip from slipping off. Good for light USB power supplies, but not great for bricks

There are some gamer desks with cable trays under the main surface that could also solve this problem. If I don’t get one of those, I may make my own shelf for power supplies which doesn’t require tape or screws.

Thanks for the suggestions but a thin psu’s cable is much tidier than yet another bulky extension cable. I already use a ridiculous amount of extension cables as it is, so only a short term solution for me.

I want to use this around the house too, not just on a desk, but seating is often too far from the wall supply. The cable length is less than 1.5 metres, so probably made for using on one part of a desk.

My digital caliper/vernier has a flat battery, but looks like the outside of the barrel is about 5mm and can’t determine the inside, because it’s tiny. I can’t even measure the pin inside the XD

I have found that MyVolts do a package of psu, 3 metre add on cable and a switch. I don’t really want that many connections really, but would prefer it to extension cables with a PSU.

Hmm, so I bought a MyVolts psu and it seemed ok for straight up playing, however, today, I decided to multisample some of my favourite presets onto my Blackbox and it turns out it’s a really noisy cable with a lot of hum, so totally unsuitable for the task.

By contrast, the og Korg PSU is a clean supply introducing little to no noise in the chain into the sampler, so I don’t rate the MyVolts cable for any kind of recording.

Anyone string two XD keyboards together? I assume it’s possible. It drives me FLIPPING INSANE that they removed the LFO one-shot mode from the Prologue.

If you want to use an envelope for PWM, that’s literally the only way.

I was just scrolling thru the web looking for some synths and discovered the XD for the first time. Sounds good, has the option for digital expansion, has CVins for modulation, seems to have a simple interface (knob-per-function?), simple modulations, a note and motion-sequencer, comes in different versions - desktop & key

seems to be a bargain

any thoughts?

I think there’s probably a lot of good info in the dedicated thread:

https://www.elektronauts.com/t/minilogue-xd/

I don’t own one but my understanding is certainly that it’s one of the best bang for buck synths on the market currently and has been an absolute knock out for Korg.

It’s one of the best synths under $1k IMO. Super versatile, sounds distinctive, 3rd party osc stuff is inspired, fun playable sequencer, lush effects. Definitely a “greater-than-the-sum-of-it’s-parts” synth.

The XD was my first synth (and the beginning of the end of my savings account). I think I just stared at it for the first month not sure what to do … mainly playing with the presets and exploring the knobs really not sure what I was doing, but learning.

The 16 step sequencer was a nice introduction for me, but I quickly found it limiting … but that is what other gear is for.

The included instruction manual is very basic and not helpful for someone starting with analog synths (especially compared to Elektron’s Syntakt great manual). As popular as the synth is, I didn’t find as much helpful information (i.e. youtube tutorials) as compared to similar popular gear. I almost returned it due to frustration in lack of guidance … wow am I glad I didn’t!

Now that I have gotten well past the learning curve (of basic knowledge), I usually end my evenings playing it. I’ve gotten a good amount of gear since the XD and it hasn’t lost it’s luster. It sounds great and leaves me in a good mood as I head to bed.

I went in to Perfect Circuit once to play the Take 5.

I left with an XD.

I’d love to hear a take 5 / minilogue comparison on youtube. I got a minilogue XD but I think the take 5 has a fatter sound

thank you for your thoughts! I somehow got stimulated by the XD leaving me with the question if i really pull the trigger should it be the key or desktop version

I had one and sold it. It is a very powerful and capable synth. However I found it a bit clean somehow and that it didn’t offer me the tangibility I like when not using the computer.

If you are looking for one synth that can do (more or less) everything - it is a great option. Korg did a really great job.

If you are a looking for something that is going to pull you away from your normal working patterns - it might not be for you.

Almost two months ago I had the opportunity to sell my OG Minilogue and upgrade to an XD for a reasonable price difference. I haven’t been able to spend extensive time with it, but from what I have I’ve found it to be a very nice upgrade. Personally, I wasn’t a big fan of the filter on the original and much prefer the XD. The additional OSC, the FX and changes to the sequencer are all IMO well worth it. The overall package is very compelling and a modern classic for sure.

I haven’t even experimented with the user based OSC waveforms or FX yet, but that’s next on my list. I’ve picked up a couple of preset packs from @crybo and @colectivo_triangular – both are highly recommended! They both do a great job of showcasing what the synth is capable of and are well past my sound design capabilities.

That’s why it’s #1 on bestseller list.

I’d say go for the module, but I have other keyboards that make up for it. Worth noting the 2.0 firmware added aftertouch, but to my knowledge the built in keys don’t support it. I’m happy with a keystep & XD module, let’s me add more desktop synths with less worry over about space.

Thankyou! Glad you enjoyed the sound pack! It’s a great little synth, love mine.

A wee tutorial for some nice ambient pads!

Well done, Crybro!

Keep these coming. These are the kinds of videos I was referencing above that I felt were missing on Youtube, so thank you.

I especially liked that you explained the menu diving and had directions overlayed in the video.

My pad is pretty close from eyeballing your video … I wish Korg would have put a white lines on the knobs :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Crybro … how do you get your screen to show the data at the bottom … i just get the wave shape. I noticed yours tells you the knob / function name and settings at the bottom.

Is there something in the settings I need to change to show that?

When you enter ‘Edit Mode’, under Global Edit and the 6th lit button gives you the parameter display menu, and it has ‘Normal’ & ‘All’ and when you adjust the parameters then they’ll display. @Soon_Forget
