Midi controller for OT

Thinking about getting a controller, but I also have an Electribe 2. So I just wanted to check if anyone tried using it as a controller? I guess track mutes/solos could be pretty straight forward, but I’m not sure how one would control the levels in a good way…

Have the Kenton USB host working well with Control XL and the OT!

Not too hard to set up thank goodness.
Might need to make some labels for the knobs though.

just an update here from the bitstream front… it was running for a while until it just dropped out on me on a gig, just stopped sending midi to the OT.
back at home I needed to make a firmware update in order to use the software again on OSX, now I cant connect to the machine as well… got tired after 2 days of trying and sold the device. works fine with ableton and midi mapping. So I guess i gotta give the faderfox a try. Cant imaging using the OT without an external controller to have volume control over my 8 tracks… so for osx interested ppl I cant recommend the bitstream.

I’m looking for a Midi controller for my Octatrack, primarily one that will allow me to control all 8 track levels and play over two octaves. I was leaning toward getting a Novation remote 25sl. It seems to have a great deal of controls, although it looks quite dated. Has anyone used it before? How easy is it to map the controls? Is there a better keyboard out there that would give me enough control over the track parameters?

Used to use a Korg MicroKontrol (https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/korg-microkontrol), which was really easy to set-up and use (without computer editor) and has storable scenes. They can be picked up cheap, I bought one (for £50) just for the faders/rotaries, but the key-bed was OK for mini-keys. Replaced it with a Faderfox UC-4, just because it’s more compact.

Have just been trying Midi Designer Pro 2 on iPad. Great so far

There’s even a quite evolved Octatrack template up on the ‘community’ section that some kind person is sharing for free/donation

Great to finally have 8 faders right there for track volumes and of course all the possibilities beyond that.

I’m actually happier stabbing at an iPad screen than the precious trig buttons on my OT so there’s that too!

Has someone successfully tried to control the OT with a DJTT Twister? If so, which USB-to-MIDI host was used?

I use Kenton. Works great for me.

Thank you for the recommendation, but have you tried it with the Twister? I’m a bit unsure, because the describtion says: “The attached USB MIDI device MUST be ‘Class Compliant’.” I don’t know it and can’t find any informations if the Twister is class compilant. Maybe i need to I’ll ask the DJTT support.

Yes I use the Twister as well as a Novation Launch Control XL and a Korg Nanokeys, all via an Overhub and into the Kenton and finally into the OT.

Class compliant

The Twister is one such device I believe.

Awesome! Thanks a lot for the information.

I want this (same dimensions as OT and other legacy products)

Very nice but too expensive for me…

Faderfox UC4 a perfect fit for coatrack: http://faderfox.de/uc4.html

It’s even the same depth when sat side-by-side. Very configurable and all from front-panel.

Is this the new faderfox controller?

Once I get time I’m going to try the newly acquired AK as a midi controller for the OT, the multimap implementation can be set to send specific midi notes so I think with a bit of thought I’ll be able to set up a handy scheme, possibly using a midipal in conjunction for some transformative functions like mapping keys to controller data etc.

Yes, I`ve seen that it was filtered anyway:
