Micromonsta 2

Finally just upgraded to latest firmware. Got lost in sound design for a while. Really enjoying experimenting with FM. Glad to have chorus. Fun stuff.

Mines shipped today. Hooray. Efficient everything thus far. I remember being pleased with the customer experience when I bought the p6 back in 2016

I am working on it. I might have found a solution for batch #3.
If that works, we might have it ready end June. Otherwise end September.

Cool! I am subscribed; so hoping I can snatch one! Good luck!

Mine just arrived today.
Need to put my fingers on it this weekend

Sigh. I love love love my mk1 but honestly it seems crazy not to sign up alerts for batch 3 of mk2 at this point. There’s so much good about MM2!

Mine arrived today, I’ve only had a brief chance to play with it (spent my lunch break lining up at the post office to collect it!) but my initial impression is very positive.

The size and build are incredible. I love small synths…from my perspective, any compromises needed to achieve this form factor are OK with me. And from the first few patches I tried out, it sound enormous. Also a lot of variety on offer, I’m excited to audition the waveforms individually and get to know this little beast.

Someone mentioned the F/Q/M knobs being a bit stiff. On my unit they’re fine, they move smoothly. I’ll need to adjust my muscle memory for the encoders, as I am used to using them as buttons to return bi-directional pots to zero on the MM1.

The patch loading logic was a bit confusing at first, but all just teething issues that I will quickly overcome. Can’t wait to dig deeper and will report back when I have a better sense of things.

It’s awesome so far. The size is ridiculous, love it. My only hope is that per-part panning is available by at least NRPN or just in each patch setting so if you are in bitimbiral mode you can split the voices up. Would be killer on the octatrack to process both individually for recording and looping. (Or in my dream case, adding automation for panning around a quadraphonic speaker setup)

You can split parts L/R, system menu, set out to dual mono. I added this in the FAQ this morning
Pan can be accessed via mod matrix, it’s there, use it, I won’t add a separate parameter for it, there is no space for it.

Aha! perfect

I’m really really really impressed about how much you have packed in here. If you don’t mind my asking what MCU are you using to drive the MM2?

I honestly am finding it a better experience than the Blofeld on all counts.

I would have preferred a dedicated parameter!

So for a pan knob, or pan midi control :
Matrix > source = offset, dest = pan.

In Program > Assign corresponding modulation to an encoder.

With midi, control corresponding modulation.

It was already the case for me with MM1.

Yup finally looked at the manual just to see the CCs and mod table to see that’s exactly the way I figured. That’s easy enough for me.

Already it’s driving me to do some things on the octatrack I’ve not really thought about before like I have a melody line where I’m using octa LFO to adjust note randomly, in scale, with the depth only applying to a single note in the melody to create variety…

Having a blast with it set to dual mono.

Got mine too. Very nice synth! But…i will let it go again. Have a look at the marketplace. Trade for Microfreak.

Funny, I’m getting rid of my Microfreak because the MM2 is more interesting to me in almost every way. I enjoyed the MF though and I’m sure you will too!

I’m keeping both Microfreak and MM2; there is some overlap but much that is unique to each box. It’s too bad the CC implementations are incompatible, but I’m curious as to what I can do with aftertouch on the MF keyboard used as a modulation source on the MM2.

That’s a great point, I should keep both. I do love the MF. Sadly, I am tight on space.

The ability to play the Linnstrument away from a computer is the main draw of the MM2 fo me, but I also wanted more voices.

I’m loving the MM2 so far. Playing with a keyboard split into 2 separate voices, in MPE mode has been incredibly fun.

That’s great to hear! I can’t wait for mine to arrive. And for deluge to get its MPE update, and be able to record MPE data into deluge from MM2.

You won’t be able to record MPE data from MM2, this is a sound module, not a MPE controller.

I guess if you have a Linnstrument or any other MPE MIDI controller, then you’ll be able to record their output in Deluge (any multichannel capable MIDI sequencer can do that), and maybe edit it - this is where the fun happens for some guys I guess…

Ah, maybe not so much edit it. I’m hoping that the midi signals from the linnstrument into the deluge can be recorded with full MPE, then no matter which mm2 patch I use, that track will still effect full MPE when it’s played.

Wow … arrived today … loving the FM

EDIT: Actually, quite apart from the FM, I’m loving the amount of variation you can get from a single oscillator by choosing waveform/wavetable and shape.
