To sum up :
Both of them are just really cool.
You can do both ! As long as m8 web display or M8s or touch designer app reads your controller.
I know this is a joke but just to say it, one can of course play live with M8. As someone used Octatrack for many years as the central piece for live performances on many small and large shows, I will not be using Octatrack if when I ever have time to do music (and shows) againā¦. Maybe doing 1 or two M8s and a MIDI controller (with Y split).
Though I never used Octatrack for realtime resampling, just a stem remixer / launcher and MIDI sequencer. It also helps on M8 that songs load in a fraction of a second (and using song queue to launch the next song on a beat). I just do not think it should be viewed as something that one canāt perform live with, it would be untrue.
real-time resampling on OT is where the magic is at
Depends on workflow for sure of course. It is a very solid bit of kit for stem mangler and MIDI as well.
OT and M8 are two of the best hardware releases by any company in the past 10+ years - IMO. Itās very tough to recommend one or the other, but personally I prefer the M8 since it is essentially a classic jungle studio in the palm of my hand and I donāt use gear much for live performing.
I havenāt received my M8 yet, but I expect it to be a fully-fledged music production environment, including sound producing instruments (i.e. synth). The OT seems to me like a very elaborate sampler (i.e. doesnāt generate sound sources on its own, but uses sounds produced by other, er, things) that could be used as a fully fledged production environment.

got a sp404mk2 and ive been running my daily m8 beats through it and spicing them up with the effects. i have visions of sequencing the sp effects from the m8 but its also too fun to just doink around live
Nice beat How do you find this combo is treating you? Iād love to hear your thoughts on them together.
thank you!
it has been great so far. ive used the M8 as an FM synth sound source where iāve tracked lines directly into the sp while beats are playing which has been a really fun workflow. i feel like my M8 beats feel much more organic and alive after running them through the sp fx too. to be totally honest it feels like this truly was the missing piece for the music i wanted to make but maybe thats just the GAS talking
i havent tried linking them via midi yet, im having too much fun being hands on and live with the sp to sit down and start fiddling with CCs
i made this beat on the M8 as well and then ran it through the sp if you were curious about another combo tune
this one was made all on the sp and i recorded the m8 live for the two synth melody parts

Hello fellow M8s / Elektronauts! Iām needing to do a 1 hour mix of my music for a project and wondering if the M8 Tracker could be appropriate for this task. Iām curious as to how much it can handle as a stem player for samples (songs) that are around 3 - 5 minutes. If it works, I can add filter sweeps / risers / Glitches and resample for song transitions within the tracker. Maybe even use the X/Y functions. Has anybody attempted this? My alternative would be working in the daw to put this together.
It can definitely play full song stems, in fact that was something Trash80 demonstrated early on. Whether or not you think itās worth buying just for that is another question though. Personally I donāt think itās worth getting just so you donāt have a laptop onstage; its strength is in being able to write tracks on the device in the first place. But to each their own
I suppose I shouldāve clarified I already own the M8 and absolutely love it! I was more or less inquiring about this process before I start moving over songs to the M8 and if itās feasible. This is technically not live, just one seamless set that Iāll be manually putting together.
Remember that you can queue songs from the project screen, so you could also create transition islands in each song and queue the next one
Oh yeah of course you do! Haha didnāt even look at the username.
This might be the way to go. Thanks for the recommendation!
Just tried to upload to the latest headless firmware on my Anbernic RG351 and the display is glitching out. Anyone managed to get theirs to work ok? Iāve had to roll back to 3.0.4. Have never got the audio to work on my PC so canāt even check on that.
That glitches were fixed in m8c v1.5.2 that was released few days ago. I had the same issue, and now itās working flawlessly.
