I’m not sure whether that’s what you mean, but there is a way by using the external instrument.
Ona given track, use that type of instrument, it sends MIDI to an external instrument and receives audio from it (provided it’s plugged to the audio in of the m8)
From there on, you have access to envelopes for the incoming audio, effects, commands for the mixer etc…
I don’t think there’s a way to only sequence stuff for incoming audio without sending MIDI OUT. I could be wrong.
Thanks. Maybe I wasn’t so clear. I want to sequence drums on the M8 and then play a lyra 8 and use the M8 to direct monitor the audio and add FX. If I could add envelopes, volume gating etc. to the incoming audio that would be great.
Edit - I think you’re right, the external instrument will let me do that.
I am on the verge of preordering a Dirtywave M8 Tracker. Having had secound thoughts, if the workflow realy is mine and works for me, I installed the M8 Headless-Version on my MS Win 10 comuter, about a week ago, which worked fine.
Yesterday I installed the M8 Headless-Version from laamaa/m8c (https://github.com/laamaa/m8c) on a Raspberry Pi4 + an InnoMaker Raspberry Pi HiFi DAC HAT PCM5122 HiFi DAC Audio Card Expansion Board. Due to the clear instruktions on Github the installation was problem-free. But I do have a problem with the soundcards getting them to work with the m8c. Neither of them, the InnoMaker, nor the soundchip from the RPi4 work. And I don’t know, which settings need to be changed, to get one or the other to work with the m8c.
I guess this issue has been discussed many times before, but has anyone got an idea on this?
I’ve been wanting to make a track to go along with some of the footage I shot in Bolivia for some time but got lost with different projects. So here it is, I hope you’ll like it!
Sampled : Novation Peak, Arturia OP-XA V, Telecaster. More info in the description!
well i ended up just getting a keystep since one was on sale locally and i am loving using the M8 as a sound source for the sp404. i havent had a noodling workflow as quick as this with the skipback. gonna try to incorporate more of the M8’s sequencer but ive been having fun going off grid for a change. thinking theres some wild effects sequencing that may be possible but im not sure yet
Yes, it’s all fm synth (kick, snare and hihat are from @trash80 's very good fm drum pack) and FX commands. And the “metal” thing comes from the chorus + reverb.
How would you say the M8 compares with the octatrack for their ability to do interesting things with samples? I’ve ordered an M8 but I’m contemplating picking up an octatrack. I don’t want to end up with too much overlap. I’m currently inspired by the Field and his sampling (From here we go sublime)
I have both, but I think they are completely different. Octa is a sampler, no synth engine, but it has plenty of fx. I think it’s mainly for live performances. The m8 is a tracker with both a synth engine and a sampler. I think the m8 is a lot of fun for composing. It looks complicated, but the more you know, the more fun you will have. I think it’s good to learn little by little
The new big font mode has completely revolutionised this machine from my perspective. I could use easily enough in original size… as people have said text size comparable to this forum in terms of font size…
But the new big font mode just makes it more fun … And I can’t seem to put it down now. Incredible machine and I’m only scratching the surface
I’ve had the M8 for over a year and bought the OT MKII 2 months ago because I wanted to do more live performances. @365luckyman said it well: the OT is more oriented for live performance. The possibilities are endless, but I find it hard to be as focuses with the OT as I am on the M8 when composing.
The M8 just begs for harmony and full songs, but can also be great for experimentation. The OT is capable of plenty, but as I said I never know if I want to use it as an FX process machine, a mixer, a stereo sampler, a little bit of everything… And I really don’t like the fact that you are very limited FX wise. I’m thinking of selling mine as it’s a total overkill for me at the moment. Then again sometimes I want to compose, sometimes I want to perform, so you never know!
