I think my friend uses ArkOS. Haven’t seen it in action yet.
anbernic 351mp here ! works flawless with amberelec (simple to set up )
does anyone have any experience using the arturia minilab 3 with their M8? im thinking of picking one up for when i want to use the M8 as a desktop FM synth. seems like it should be straightforward enough
I sold my MiniLab3, I found the knobs to be useless (too stiff) for my taste (all Arturia knobs actually). The keyboard was OK (ish), but I’d go with a KeyStep 37.
Don’t suppose you have an idiots guide on how to do this?
I had the issues on my RG351M - can’t remember if I gave feedback after the fix but the solder job was straightforward and I’ve not had any issues since.
Still not had any joy with getting an audio interface working on ArkOS so if anyone has managed to sample the audio input using AmberELEC I’d be really interested to find out! (@midirobot - have you tried sampling?)
big thanks for the feedback, the knobs were a big draw so glad to hear your opinion on them. probably will go a different direction
If you want (good) knobs, check out:
- Behringer X-Touch Mini (super cheap, endless encoders with indents, clicky + leds, A and B bank)
- MidiFighter Twister, (16 endless encoders, smooth + leds, not clicky, A/B/C/D banks)
- Electra One (an entire league on its own)
I myself am more leaning to smooth encoders (like on MidiFighter Twister and Electra One), but I abolutely love them being endless with leds (X-Touch Mini and MidiFighter Twister), as I hate dented knobs pointing to a wrong position (after say loading a new song).
On the M8 currently you have to do some extra work to make te knobs reflect the correct state (by placing CCA through CCH commands), hopefuly a future firmware update will send the current CC’s automaticly when loading a new song) (@trash80 ?)
Sorry for the rambling, the topic is a bit of a pet peeve of mine
no worries i love having the info. to be honest i think im trying too hard to force my M8 into this desktop synth idea, i think if im gonna have a nice keybed and nice knobs (in a small form factor, barely any space available) im gonna need two separate controllers and thats already going above what i want to do.
oh nice that is perfect! i even saw that while searching but i foolishly assumed there wasnt a dedicated midi port but that does look like just what i need!
Woah I have this exact device. Wonder how he connected to the m8. Maybe through a host?
Probably via midi, pretty sure those mk3 novation controllers have midi ports. See the minijack plugged into the back.
Confirmed: The launchkey mini mk3 does indeed have midi out on a 3.5mm jack.
Yep that’s right. My lord I never even thought of it. Had it connected via usb to my studios hub for ages. Lol.
I have said many times that this little controller is amazing for the price and it has just delivered again.
This gen of novation stuff is really good, I had the 37 key one and it was leagues ahead of stuff like the keystep in terms of key feel and build quality.
im excited to see the larger 25 key version will fit in my space, i think we have a winner
from the comments:
“You don’t need any adapter. TRS MIDI out from the Novation to the TRS MIDI in of the M8.”
“It’s very easy to map. The M8 has a MIDI learn function that makes it really easy.”
“On page 33 of the manual there is a section called MIDI Mapping View. To assign a MIDI CC to a parameter just place the cursor on the desired parameter, holding down the OPTION key and turn the MIDI knob (or fader) from your controller.”
“I like the Novation. It’s easy to assign pads for triggering song rows ala Ableton, knobs moving synth parameters, and playing some melodies. I think it’s good for performing with the M8”
“Is there a way to mute the 8 channels with the mini? I’ve read that you can use midi notes to mute and solo the channels but I can’t seem to get it to work with the mini mk3.”
"Yes. You can do it. You have to use the second octave on the midi control channel if the control channel is not set to “ALL”. "
“Are the pads controlling the M8 tracks?”
“Yes. I use the pads to trigger the patterns/scenes. Look for “Song Row Cue Channel” in the manual, in MIDI settings.”
…did some research while waiting for my m8 from the july batch!
TBH never tried … loaded samples on the sd and that’s it .
Is it possible to manipulate live audio using the m8? Adding the Fx and maybe gating the incoming signal with the sequencer for some rhythmic element.
