Hey Guys, anyone know where to get more synth-presets, I have gone through the ones on https://www.impbox.net/matey/ (highly recommended for those who haven’t been there) and I’d like to try some other presets, anywhere you can direct me to?
Yeah, I felt this need too. But, not having many presets also meant crafting my own. Something I hardly did on preset heavy synths. The M8 helps me better understand and apply synthesis.
I don’t think the M8 can do this but thought I’d ask anyway…
Something I liked from the Polyend Tracker was it’s ability to create notes within a scale. From memory, it was called something like “fill” where you could set a scale and the density of the notes it would generate and voila, populate with note data. It was often a load of bollocks but you could keep cycling until you struck something interesting.
Anything like that on the M8? I need to get my head in order for note entry old skool tracker style. The PT had an advantage with it’s grid which made it easier. Suppose I could try plugging in my XKey for note entry (if I can find it!).
you can set the scale but there’s no fill. you can enter notes pretty quickly anyway & all will be in the set scale.
in related news I did add a os3.0 request for random note entry similar to fill / norand mono. more like the Norand actually - key combo -> boom, random note entry. press again to delete, press again for new random entry, kinda thing. it would be a cool addition alright.
- Set phrase to a scale
- Populate phrase with (random) notes
- Put the pitch (PIT) command in the FX column (on all rows)
- Randomise the PIT command
- Put the change (CHA) command on all rows in the second FX column (so not all notes will play all the time)
- Use a seed (SED) to “lock” randomisation and chance.
Changing the seed value is your Polyend Fill command now.
I think this comes close.
Cheers - will look into the scale thing. I did see it was in there but hadn’t learned how to use it! Probably missing about 90% of things on the M8 to be honest
And thanks @martin01 - will def give that a go later on and see how I get on with things!
check out the Dirtywave meetups on Youtube. They are your guide.
+1 for the meetup vids. they’re all time stamped so you can find what you’re looking for. they’re an enjoyable watch too.
Yeah, on the original shipping firmware I was lucky to get more than a day out of it. The very first update improved this to the point where I can use it for around an hour a day for a week before charging.
This is heavily dependent on environmental things like usage (how much of that hour it’s actually playing vs. stopped), screen brightness, etc. so YMMV. But I haven’t heard many complaints since the update.
Re: battery life- I haven’t done controlled tests about this, and not a lot of heavy use, but have been following @Norb’s tip and seem to have pretty good results:
yeah, I tried renaming the files in the drum kit, but it still didn’t work. would audacity be a wav editor? could I just load the files in ableton and export as a new wav? if anyone wants to help me solve this problem, here’s a zip of two drum kits that don’t work for me…otherwise here are two free drum kits that I really enjoy lol
edit: let me know if anyone has issues accessing these zip files
some samples from the Kaelin pack load some don’t on my m8. no idea what this means.
same here. I’m so confused lol
edit: thanks for trying though! glad it isn’t just me then
@trash80 would you be able to provide some insight regarding this issue?
Yeah looks like there is some misc additional header/meta information on these that I have not accounted for. Will be fixed on the next version. In the meantime you could resave the files via a batch process to remove the meta data (and also maybe change the bit depth to 16 since there is not much information loss with these samples, less stress on the sd card and a higher octave range)
Thank you! I appreciate the response. I’ll certainly try to re-save everything
Hi!
Here’s a track I made with the DT, DN and M8. It is inspired by a great book by Edgar Mittelholzer called ‘Eltonsbrody’.
I previously sampled my Telecaster through the Chase Bliss Thermae directly into the Digitakt, as well as various 0-Coast percs that I scrambled with the DT.
I recorded my voice through a Vocoder and sampled it into the M8.
The M8 and DT/DN combo have their clock synced, and I’m launching individual patterns on the fly on the M8: vocals, a triangle lead, a gritty bass, and some hats.
Lyrics and more info in the video description.
I hope you’ll enjoy it!
Does anyone know if it’s possible to specify Velocity values for the MIDI OUT Instrument?
The default Velocity setting for all output notes is 100 - causing too much Accent to be applied on certain external MIDI gear.
I read that it’s possible to record Velocity from an External source, so I am wondering if one can specify the Velocity value when programming a Phrase manually on the M8.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks.
Sharing this project here because the title track “David’s 101” is made entirely with the M8 Tracker with only a smidge of post processing. The other 2 tracks were sequenced entirely with the M8 Tracker, with a blend of internal samples, synth engines, and external gear (Shruthi, Minilogue XD, Alpha Juno) Hope you enjoy!
The “V” column in phrase is velocity for MIDIOUT instruments. Also the “V” column in table affects it too. You can change it in the table (just insert 1 value at the top) to affect all notes without needing to edit it in every phrase.
There are some other tricks with the V column for MIDIOUT as well when working with a mono voice synth. EG: leaving the V empty on new notes will cause the last playing note to be stopped after the new note plays for legato behavior (if the synth uses legato voicing)
