M8 Tracker

Just as long as we can all agree that it is a hexadecimal 8 and not a base-10 8 and that base-10 is trash

Hehe, yes, I showed several weeks ago the M8 to a friend, whoĀ“s not into synthsamplerstuff (but heĀ“s deep into starwarsstuff), and instantly he said ā€œMachtā€ to it and we chuckled then.
Now he wants one, too

Alright attention M8 fam / idm krew / digitone cultists and acid enthusiasts!
Today I wanna give you my FM acid synthesis patch on the M8! Why ? Because it sounds just like my Roland boutique Tb03 running thru a MXR distortion!

Important notes : the operator feedback is being modulated and POST analog distortion gives you the best Resonance screech.
(P.s. - the pitch mods are there for chords on algorithm B!):alien: :sunglasses: :mage:ā€ā™‚ :trumpet: :dagger:  :upside_down_face:

I got my missing caps (they actually sent a full set) yesterday from Dirtywave. They were fast in responding and shipping the missing parts.

Time to watch some videos on how to make this thing sing!

I’m planning to copy over the original Amiga ST-01 etc. packs

I think it’s very appropriate for this tracker

I’m a super happy M8 owner since two days. What a device. I love the Elektron workflow and hardware. But holy smoke this little gem has got me really really excited.

Track one is the main arp. It’s the M8 FM synth.

Anyone else thinks the play/shift should have been switched? Shift on the right and play on the left?

Given that the shift+arrows are used all the time, it’s hard to use the right thumb for the shift while the left thumb pushes the arrows.

It hasn’t been a problem for me, personally, but I can see your point. Sadly, such a switch would have wrecked havoc on the muscle memory of LSDJ users used to Select and Start.

It’s probably not hard to remap the keys in firmware, though. Maybe make a feature request to allow the mapping buttons to functions, generally, on accessibility grounds?

Where should I request the feature? Discord?

I think that’d be your best bet, yes. Anytime I’ve had questions or comments, Tim/Trash80 has been incredibly responsive there.

Here’s the link in case you don’t have it. Don’t forget to read the Rules post and follow its instructions.

so I’m having trouble with my M8 not reading certain .wav files I saved to the SD card. some drum kits load fine, others say ā€œerror reading sample formatā€, but they’re still .wav files that read fine on my computer. is there something I’m missing? do I need to change the length of the file name? has anyone else experienced a similar issue?

It’s probably file name length, and if not that it might be sample bitrate, although I haven’t had that exact problem - it’s just something I heard when trying to figure out why I had the same issue. My guess is filename length is most likely culprit.

It’s not just the file itself, but that whole file path, so be aware if you’ve got deeply nested folder structures and try to reduce any unnecessary encapsulations. Lots of sample packs like to nest super deeply and then have extra long file names :man_facepalming:

thanks! I kinda figured that, but didn’t try to rename anything yet. I’ll certainly give that a go. appreciate the quick response

I’ve never had issue with the buttons setup, but maybe there could be a feature request to remap the physical buttons to different functions. Similar to a video game controller remap menu.

could be those wav files contain wayyyyy too much meta data. Most wav editors can delete that.

the other thing is that a file path on M8 cannot be more than 127 characters.

From the moment i started using it I have been automatically switching thumbs while operating. So shift is used with the left thumb and then the arrow keys with the right fingers. And when using option I swap it around. Using shift with the right thumb while operating the arrow keys doesn’t feel natural to me either (fairly small hands) so maybe try this

I think if Shift and Play were swapped I’d reach over with my left hand to Option and Edit since the right hand would handle Shift. That interaction needs more reach than pressing Shift with left hand and Option / Edit with right hand.

Has the battery life gotten better? That’s why I sold mine. I’d use it for an hour sit it down for a day and then pick it up to only get another 30-45 minutes out of it.

Think a firmware fixed that. It was mentioned in a YouTube review and the Dirtywave guy commented about firmware fixing it

Not noticed the problem myself but I don’t get as much battery generally as I’ve ramped up the screen brightness
