You know they had the bot farms running on overtime for that one
In some ways it doesnāt matter so much that he placed last. Just by getting the all the press and being different, so many more people now know about Sam and likely a good percentage of them WILL be into what heās doing.
Personally, I thought the song was catchy and the whole Thomas Dolby meets drunken soccer chant of it all was really fun. The performance was creative and fun too.
Side note, if he put together a full act of āpartyā electronica like that, I could see him touring with the likes of Electric Callboy or something.
The Bulgarian winner hit the modern pop/dance star marks, although I personally didnāt find the song all that memorable except for the ābangarangaā thing. But at least it was something you might hear in the club instead of some half-assed ABBA clones or some sappy Schlager duo. By winning this, itās obviously a good boost for her career.
Iām from Bulgaria and what happened yesterday was HUGE for our country:) So happy for DARA as she works very hard and she is the āfull packageā. And while the song is more like a meme or a party trick, the values she stands for, being from a post-communist country with divided society and all kinds of phobias, and her authenticity are just contagious. She just broke the Eurovision code yesterday, with all its political and ethnic conventions. She is the new generation!
LMNC was also great and we all love him, but like my welsh friend said: he is too good for Eurovision:)
Heās to cheesy and not polished enough for the big party acts. And the lyrics⦠Where definitely also not for such an audience. And the first half lacked energy that the studio version fixed with production, that he could not compensate in the second half.
I looked up his actual performance⦠I was kinda disappointed? Heās not used to such choreography, you could hear him struggling to sing and dance.
The set was to minimal, and needed more imho.
1 point is still to low. Confused how Italy got so high.
I donāt care a bit for the winner.
But Iām satisfied with that the winner was not controversial, and that Austria is at the end.
(I liked his track, in a cheesy contest way, I would not play it for myself. I just think most of it is my love for more oldschool sounding synths)
I like your description. ![]()
I have never really been into pop music but I watched that video and felt really jealous of the European energy. So much nicer than the energy coming out of the US these days. Made me feel actual optimism watching that somehow, like ABBA in the 1980s. Haha.
I would not call that European energy. First im not sure if I would call Israel and Australia European (they are part of the same satelite broadcasting network (Eurovision))
Second: itās not representative of the countries or what they really like. The winner and some songs get broader radio play. Rarely do the acts stay more then local legends in their country and a curiosity in others.
But it is a spectacle, just by the viewing numbers alone.
Yeah, I know nothing about Eurovision or this yearās contest other than that video, but itās starkly different from the energy coming out of the US or even Asia, where I am, so itās some kind of energy. Haha.
I think I have a greater tolerance for cheesy European stuff than cheesy American stuff though. I have a bit of a soft spot for some Japanese pop stuff as well. American Idol would on the other hand make me want to tear my own eyes out.
I thought they bomb in Eurovision, but thankfully no school children were present.
Yeah - they should have let some of the British fans join him. Loads of Brit fans go to EV to get pissed and have a good time. Sure they wouldāve loved to join him. BBC and of delegates probably too posh and embarrassedā¦
Felt bad for Sam but he must of know that this couldāve happened. Hopefully he takes solace on any publicity better than no publicity because he is know momentarily a household name, which no doubt boost his career somehow.
maybe he just looked at the crowd there and was too embarrassed to sit with anyone there. someone tries to come near, he just like sorry this seat is taken ![]()
I donāt think heās crying himself to sleep about it. I think he was mentally quite well prepared for such an outcomeā¦
They are starting an āAsian Eurovision Song Contestā.
Itās in Bangkok in November.
Lol thats hilarious, gonna seriously consider a purchase
The UK wasnāt at the bottom, there were ten other teams cut before the finals. They were just judged the bottom of what was left, by the standards and rules set down, which are open to question as well.
I mean after all if things keep on as they are going, weāll probably see more countries joining Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Iceland. Maybe that expanding group could do something a little different and real.
ā¦except that the UK is part of the Big 5, who donāt have to compete in the semi-finals. They are automatically qualified to perform in the final.
Anyway, Sam deserved better, but then ESC is simply not his playground. Song and music aside, most of the target audience doesnāt even understand 1% of what he was trying to show. Those kids know nothing about modular and the crazy experiments with hardware heās usually running on his YT. And letās be honest, why should anyone watching ESC even care? Itās an entirely different type of beast.
Iām waiting for Eurorackvision next year.
I honestly thought he would have done well. The song sounded like it would work for the contest
I turned over and someone was dressed as Tony the Tiger flying along on a scooter while his nan danced behind him. That was enough and I turned it off, felt like Iād done a few micro dots
I just watched the video and thought it was honestly charming and funny. It was like the good version of what if me and my friends were on eurovision. I love that he didnt really learn any dance steps.
