Korg Multi/Poly

Yay, module & native, I’m getting interested!

Props to Korg for making keys, module, VST the standard for their digital synths!

But remember: Elektron always gives us the plugin for free (although you need to buy the hardware).

Overbridge isn’t a standalone instrument plugin though. Not quite the same comparison as Korg Native plugins don’t require the hardware to be connected.

Yeah I know, I also wrote that. It’s probably not fair to compare. I wish everyone just released a keys/module/VST version at launch, at least the big names could afford that, for Elektron it’s obviously not worth the risk (see discontinued keys versions).

Finally got my keyed version this week. Had a play this morning. Absolutely don’t regret buying the hardware at all. This is a keeper

I kinda like that there will be a VST. You can play with it before hand to see if you like the sound. Engineers have a platform to test new sounds and product managers can play with the sound engines at their computers before it pushed to a hardware box. I imagine it make these platforms easier to sustain over the long run.

at the end of the day, i buy hardware because i like the workflow. I’m looking forward to seeing how this platform develops.

no midi implementation except for the 4 mod lnobs is pretty fucking bonkers for a 2025 digital synth

what were they thinking? or they just forgot to mention it on the manual? i hope it’s the latter

The last few Korgs I’ve had always seem to lack in MIDI stuff.

Sounddesign tips!

Completely expected, like Korg has been doing in general, to have a Native mode of this synth too.

It’s on sale :

Actually I find the Midi Implementation is quite clever.

For controlling the synth you can directly only influence performance controls as listed.
Correct.

But you can MIDI learn any parameter that can be selected as target in the Mod Matrix.
That binding is than specific for a performance.
It will not control the setting of a patch but modulate it on top.
If this important you could use the MultiPoly Template add the CC that you like to control and save it as a new template. Now you have an init program that can control synth parameters as you like.

To me that follows a similar idea like on the MODX for assigning controls.

But yes that is not a classical way to control the synth parameter with absolute MIDI CC values.

I tried the Native version…the sound is really great but the interface is pretty clunky compared to other soft synths i enjoy. looking to try the hardware sometime.

I played 30min with it yesterday and I enjoyed quite a bit! Sounds like a proper analog synth to me with great FX and more versatility (other oscillator mode). I got lost in drone and arpeggios but couldn’t figure out how to program the sequencer …

I’m thinking about grabbing the desktop version but I don’t know what to use as sequencer.
The push 3 seems to be the perfect addition to it with MPE, sequencing, audio in and so on.

What do you guys use to sequence it? Elektron box?

I’m using a Machine+ as my sequencer.

Testing the demo while it’s on a sale (as plugin, of course).
Ugh, a touch choice. Endless options, absolutely easy to get lost (where is goddamn amp envelope? The modulation list? It’s not a list, it’s a valley).

This synth is super tempting because of its potential, but the sound is super smooth and clean even on extreme settings, a bit of paradox, a bit too hi-fi for my needs  A great choice for modern ultra-modulated dark-psy (or whatever it’s called now). Will wait for the next sale…

Just couple of notes:

  • It’s much more flexible than Virus, especially the oscillator section, but still too clean, different character, and just too few distortion/drive options
  • Not a single program sounded ‘vintage’ or ‘analog’ to me. Previous Korg emulations, even such cheap as Korg Gadget had much more of such flavor. If you need “analog” tone, their ARP emulation is much better
  • Good old clunky chunky Blofeld is still a thing

I just purchased a Korg Multi/Poly Module for $749 ($100 off normal price) at Guitar Center, and they gave me that deal even though it is on back order until May 24. Assuming the TT (Trump Tariff) sticks with Japan (which will add another 10% to the price), I wanted to get it now at this lower price before GC and other retailers start upping their prices. I can see this synth going for $1,000 by mid year.

I’m looking forward to having this on my synth module shelf right next to the Wavestate module. It’s a bit redundant, as in there quite a bit of overlap, but not entirely.

I wonder if you can remove the rack ‘ears’ on the module.
It would be a shame if they’re permanent, since it’s otherwise a nice desktop for a desk or a platform of some type, where useless extra width is annoying.

The manual doesn’t appear to mention it.

I am bummed at the drive options and don’t really understand how to adjust them. Haha!

They are not only removable, but can be re-attached as stands, for several angle options! Here you see multi poly on it’s rack ears at one angle, and opsix module at a different angle:
