Korg Multi/Poly

Never had a wave state and never had a modwave, but I bought the M/P and it has been quite the learning curve, thankful for all the wavestate and modwave tutorials out there but there is A whole LOT of menu diving on a very small menu screen. The keys are smooth and the unit is conveniently sized. this is my go to for recording and performance simply becuase the quality of the audio, both preset and my custom designs, are amazing, best sound over my many other synths. I feel like the Hydrasynth would be the closest comparison??? I don’t have one but as far as design work flows seems to be. i don’t mind not having after touch on this specific unit, the ability to design layered performances topped with great effects is the balance for me. I also don’t gig or ever playing this one instrument alone, it’s usually live recordings with several other synths and keyboards and the one and only thing that I can not wrap my head around is only being able to ā€œMotion Sequenceā€, I really want to be able set it forget it and press play on a midi cue. I get a lot of flack for using the words ā€œonly being able toā€ I mean to say I want to press play and walk away to work on a different synth that would be ideal for me but the M/P wants ALLLL of my attention at all times. Alot of similarities to the Modwave and this is only $100 more. I do not believe you will get in a software what this can do in hardware, there is just way too much going on but I am not a computer tech so if a PC could handle this power then all power to it but again the quality and the texture of the sounds outputting here and the keys flow makes me feel like a harpist live at the garden. If you plan to wait start saving now, because the mk 2 should cost much more, this deserves a bigger screen, and after touch.

I don’t think I understand what you mean.

I’ll be honest, I don’t know if I have the ear for that. I do own a microKorg and Hydra and Ion. It sounds more organic than those.

Anyone having problems assigning mods with their Multipoly in the latest update? Mine is bricking when i try to assign something to the 4 knobs, needs a restart constantly… must say though that this is one beautiful sounding synth.

Thanks

can anyone tell me about the CC implementation of the synth parameters? I can’t seem to find a list within the manual or other materials.

So I’m still waiting for my M/P to arrive… anyone got any music made with their M/P so far that they would like to share to help an impatient soon to be owner of this synth get a preview of real world use?

Ps. I’ve seen the YouTube videos. Interested in hearing some real world jams.

Congratulations! I absolutely love mine. I posted this a couple days ago.

Actually I hope there is a CC implementation. I have a modwave, and I have been surprised that there is almost no midi CC implemented (!!!). It is first time I have seen that on a digital synth. Instead you can either assign one of the 4 soft knobs (which respond to midi CC) to the destination you want to control. Or you can assign midi CC in the mod-matrix. But in this case the midi CC controls only relative change and cannot be used to set the absolute value of a parameter (so you cannot use them to control the synth from an external controller). So sad to see that on such a great synth.

i appreciate this response…ya it’s a huge design oversight for this sort of thing if this is the case.

Thanks for the reply. Different to my usual listening but enjoyed the dark themed progression.

Yeah, I came to electronic music from punk, doom, and black metal. Haha!

So I had a Modwave for a while and sold it because it felt kind of tedious to program patches on it, I’m wondering if anyone who has had both can weigh in on how they feel about the Multi/Poly in comparison?

If I’m being honest they feel pretty similar. However, I do understand the M/P more than I did the MW, but I imagine that has something to do with learning the MW first so those skills help on the M/P. The M/P does seem a bit easier to understand but that could also be because there’s more of a VA vibe to it.

Very interested to hear when the module will be available. It seems a bit tricky just to get my hands on the keyed version even now.

Wonderful.
Hope it has an intro pricing once it’s up on the store (doesn’t appear to be yet).

I’d assume it’s the same price as the other native VSTs. $199 or $49 for those of us who bought the hardware.
