Japanese MPCs

Isn’t there some kind JP post stoppage at the moment for sending parcels OS. About a week ago I was told so for packages to Australia and north america.

I’m not sure. I know last year JP wouldn’t ship to certain places, but that was because of restrictions in those countries on receiving parcels, I was told.

I’m thinking of switching my 2500 to a 1000 for portability and space reasons. JJOSXL irons out almost all differences apart from physical ones I think?
I’ve also been reading about the battery mod here to make it a truly mobile unit.

I’ve been watching some from Japan too. The pictures look all too similar for different listings, and there are price changes and new (same) listings almost daily. Doesn’t inspire confidence at least not for me!

Possibly you will need a transfo. My Japanese Akai has a 110v PSU. I use a 220 to 110v transfo. No problems

Akai switched to Chinese factories in ‘96 I believe. Some early MPC2000’s have the sticker “Made in Japan” while most were Made in China. Same for S3000XL, but more were still manufactured in Japan. If you see and want an S3000XL, ask the seller to take a picture of the back and only get it if the sticker reads Made in Japan.
All Akai’s after the S3000XL were made in China. Numark took over after the S5k/6k IIRC. Starting from the Z4/Z8/MPC4k. I believe the S5k/6k was the last “true” Akai, and all were built in China

Not in my case. The 1K I got had a sticker saying 100v (50-60hz) which got me concerned indeed.

Took the sticker off, which revealed new information:
100v-240v (50-60hz)
Anyway, plugged it and all was well  I mean from that point of view. The unit travelled the world (Japan, China, US, DE, and UK) very thinly packaged and arrived with half buttons effed, broken sides etc, but that’s another story.

If you want the battery mod get in now because the dude closes shop at the end of Jan. I got the basic PSU kit from him which means I can power the 1K with an external battery. Anyway he has a few options, see what fits. Cheers

Thanks didn’t know that!
I’ll look into it…

Highly recommended, great comms, super helpful, etc etc

I had both, the MPC one dances all over MPC1K tbh, its a cracking machine altho not same build quality, sounds are brilliant as is its flexibility with loads of USB Midi and class compliant USB Audio connectivity up to x32 channels, its been one of my best machines in terms of value for money

I had the Live 2 for a while. It can do anything. But I prefer the 1000 for some reason.

@joeyfivecents I got the live 2 a week ago and it is an amazing machine. Like you said, can do anything. And here I am looking at my 2500 which I’ve just fetched out the cupboard. It’s weird how sometimes you get one machine and it rekindles your interest for another.

I much prefer the feel of making music on a 1000/2500. The Live/One/X are wicked but too much going on and an irritatingly imprecise touch screen.

I wonder if I will end up in this boat too!

I can’t get rid of this earworm, now you can’t too!

I hear you. I am in love with the MPC One, but I see prices for 1000s finally coming back to earth and I can’t help but consider getting one, even if it is just a backup. I am using more and more samplers now together so its a bit easier to think about slimming down to 6 outs for drums and sending those outs into my Bluebox for tracking, and then letting the OT and 404 handle other stuff.

Also I think the MIDI clock on the 1000 is a lot better than the One. I may be wrong there though.

mpc live is a totally different formfactor though, I love the 2500, plus you can scratch on it with the q-Link fader,

but the export options on the mpc one are saaweeeeet

Yeah they really are cool but sometimes can be a little buggy. Takes eternity as well for a full track sequence. I think my last track took 35-45 minutes to export.

damn, I’ve been spared such export times, but I do most of my exporting piecemeal anyway, but there are so many things I could never give up … still love the 2500 though, I will be seriously peeved if the next model they put out does not have some faders on it
