Speen run—got it in the first take! Never done that before. Maybe this Jamuary method is paying off, after all. Trying out a 7:8 groove as an experiment for this month’s battle.

I’m very sorry, but the comments for today are simply not up to my standards.
I’m not one for public groveling, but my chronic fatigue has been particularly unkind to me recently, and it has impacted my ability to listen and comment as deeply as I would like.
In lieu of any kind of condolences, I would prefer people spend their efforts (if possible) listening to and commenting on those pieces which were particularly disserviced
I like that stutter effect a lot! It adds a cool glitchy element to the piece. This piece sounds very full despite your five track limit! There is a nice phased feeling to the tonal elements
it starts so soothing, but that dissonant cloud that looms over the piece adds a wonderful bit of contrast! I love how that darker sound really washes over everything and feels like it’s suppressing the sounds below it
wonderfully serene! And I love those small tine sounds that come in for just a moment at around 2m30s. There’s a bunch of tastefully considered moments through this whole piece, and that drum programming is fantastic! Intense and frenetic, but well phrased, so you still have some time to catch your breath between bouts
quite bouncy indeed! I liked those whizzing zap sounds that get highlighted around 38s in
lovely atmosphere! An excellent showcase of your versatile sound design skills. I ,love how cloudy the bass on this piece is. It really fits that foggy vibe
I love the contrast between the simple piano chords and the more hectic sounds and rhythms around them! The beginning of the piece feels like your vocals or obscured behind or trapped within the soundscape, but then things settle for a bit, and your vocals and the piano are able to fill more of the space
heavy! Definitely a great energy to this piece! I can absolutely see this getting filled out with potentially doubled guitar and vocals. There’s a good idea here for sure
this is great! I love how the drums build up, and the rhythm really gets to find itself. I really enjoy the bits of dissonance in the tonal elements too
bangin! I love all those crazy sounds that come in later in the piece, and I wasn’t expecting those synth chords at all! Everything always maintains this nice sense of groove throughout as well
nice and spacey! I love it when those hi hats come in too. The skitter right over the top of everything perfectly. The tonal sounds are beautiful too! They evolve so smoothly through this piece

I love those low mid flourishes that feed off the decay tails of the bass! There’s a beautifully chaotic feel to both the sound design and the rhythms, and it’s dope! I love how the rhythms start relatively simple, but get progressively crazier through the piece
this has a wonderfully aquatic feel to it! Like watching bubbles rise up through a crystal clear pool
lovely sounds! That organ is so lush, and you do a wonderful job filling up the piece with it! I also love the way the bass and drums are interacting with each other
some really cool sounds in here! Definitely an avenue worth exploring more. You could use a lot of these sounds in other compositions too!

love the use of odd time signatures (and 5/4 is a personal favorite of mine)! I like how you use the odd beat to create these frantic fills towards the end of the piece
love it! This grooves so well that the normal 7/8 hiccup isn’t really felt at all! In fact, you seem to be using that hiccup as a way to lead into your loops, and it sounds fantastic
so pretty! Reminds me of the hot summer nights I spent looking up at the stars. Something stronger than nostalgia
I like the way the delay interacts with your synths, especially in the intro and outro! It gives this sense of something rising up to either cover or uncover the piece
so emotive! This piece feels very angsty and aggressive, like it wants to fight

Time for metal! I’ve been going really synth heavy with my jams recently and I wanted to do something completely without. Drums here are EZDrummer with a Drumkit from Hell kit. I played my guitar through the Neural DSP Nolly X plugin. I’m on the free trial, but I think I’ve been convinced to buy it at this point.
These are scratch lyrics, as you can probably tell. When I write vocals, I always put in basic scratch lyrics to get the general vibe down before going back and rewriting. This also took me a surprisingly long amount of time to record because I got the hiccups early into the recording process. Next time, vocals THEN dinner.

Thanks! Yes the track is all on the boxes. I use overbridge to capture my performance (mutes and parameter tweaks) and then I can edit that data to refine what I was trying to do in realtime. When I’m happy with the arrangement I record the audio from the master outs a few times and choose the one where lfo start phases led to the best results (we really need an lfo trigger option to start on playback)
