These have been very fun two weeks, way more fun than last year when I did this alone lol.
It’s very cool to see the jams getting into more varied direction day by day.

Nice, I’m not familiar with BSBD, but from a quick search I see they’ve worked with Jean Grae who’m i’m definitely a fan of. I’ll have to check them out. Thanks for putting me on game!
@tovia Thank you for the kind words! Every day it’s a challenge to figure out what I should do, but somehow I manage to let the self-imposed expectations fall away and just have a jam. It feels freeing to actually just play, and it’s incredibly rewarding to know someone out there enjoys what I’m doing for fun!

Barely snowed today, they shut down the school as we were heading out the door. Sample is kid throwing his toy trains into the box they live in.
Had a dream that I ran into my friend in the middle of an unsuccessful tour, lyrics are about that.

Made a bass patch that I dig on the Peak and immediately put it to use. I was trying to write something in a sort of Apoptygma Berzerk style, and I think I pulled that off okay with the bassline. Once the drums and guitar came in, I think I got a little further from it, but I’m still psyched about how this came together.
I’m not 100% sure what I’ll be doing with it in the long run, but I know it’s something that I’m going to come back to after Jamuary and work with more. It has an energy that I really like, and I’m psyched to put some vocals to it.

I trashed so many different ideas since the start of this Jamuary, when in the past two years I would have just stuck with it.
Sticking with it and seeing it through is probably the best mental exercise to build up for the rest of the year. Someone last year mentioned that nothing they’ve done would be a throwaway, and how they have the confidence to turn anything into a full track. I’m still trying to get there, but at least for now for most things, I now have plenty of sample food to mess with throughout the year.
Anyway, I like this track. Lots of different elements in it and I’d think it’d be a good one to come back to.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. There are some elements in there I like, but overall sounds a bit of a mess. Synth work was definitely rushed. I do plan on spending February turning five of my Jamuarys into more complete tracks. We’ll see if that one makes the cut.
Maybe we can have a Februshupyourjamsuary thread!

I feel like I’m running out of ideas, which is pushing me into weird directions, but I guess that’s the point: today I did something I’ve never done with my Matriarch. I plugged my acoustic guitar into the instrument input, and started jamming. And it sounded pretty cool! I’m always dreaming of Moog reissuing the Moogerfooger pedals, but as I was jamming, I realized that the Matriarch is a Moogerfooger: you’ve got delay, wah/filter, tremolo, ring mod, saturation, and even a 2-pole phaser if you turn up the resonance. With an envelope follower, you could even make it a FreqBox! So even if today’s jam is a bit uninspired, I learned a lot, and might have to get a proper electric guitar now.
Warning: I am a bad guitarist. Also, goddamn if mixing guitars isn’t hard. I did my best on EQ & mastering, but beware of peaks and valleys here.
