Happy New Year, Nauts! We’re gonna kick off the 2026 D&B&Jungle Battles with a weird one that I’ve been wanting to do for a while.
So this challenge is very simple: The bulk of your track must be outside of common time.
That’s it! That’s the whole challenge!
Otherwise it is completely open, other than track length and (extremely porous) genre conventions. You can use any gear or samples you want, but your song cannot serve the 4:4 hegemony—we’re forging our own signatures here!
3:4, 6:8, 7:5, 5:4; 11:16, any time you please—as long as it’s uncommon
Time to make use of those track-length and last-step settings. Sing along with the uncommon people!
TH3 RUL35:
—Create a Drum & Bass or Jungle track using any gear or samples you want
—Your track MUST INCLUDE A MAIN SECTION OR BREAKDOWN OF SIGNIFICANT LENGTH THAT IS NOT IN 4:4 TIME
—Keep it under 6 minutes!
—Post inspiration tracks in the thread!
—Send me a WAV/AIFF/FLAC by End of Day SUNDAY, February 1st!!!
I’ve tried to do 5/4 jungle a handful of times. The one good thing I had going was on a device that I sold and didn’t bother recording before I sold it. Regretting that right now haha.
I think I’m just gonna come at it from an experimental angle, lots of dnb sounds and eff around with some of the Ableton devices like Euclidean and polymeter. I really have no clue so I’m just throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks,…
