Koala +1

Koala is great. Hold a pad to sample to it, and that’s it. The next time you tap it, it plays back.

It can receive midi clock, everything can be midi mapped. It looks like a toy, but for me, it’s the best sampler on any platform.

I’ll definitely look at Koala then.

Any others?

I think you can use some other app that would receive MIDI clock and transmit Ableton Link, and set up Logic to receive Ableton Link.

Apple seems to be religiously opposed to the idea of MIDI clock sync. Desktop Logic has the same issue (or at least had when I was using it, and it didn’t support Ableton Link back then).

Koala instantly came to mind here too :metal:

Loopy Pro is probably the closest in terms of features. That’s what I use along my Blackbox.

You really gotta get both because, you gotta.

FYI: Patterning 2 : Drum Machine looks to be on sale right now, $14.99.

Animoog Z is 50% off this weekend.

And be sure to download my massive library of legacy Animoog presets which are practically legendary at this point…

I am a big fan of Igor Vasilev’s weird and wonderful apps, and noticed yesterday, that he has just released a new one, delving into no-input-mixer feedback systems. Instant buy and loads of fun! Anyone else been playing with this?

Was about to post about that app myself since Iā€˜ve always been fooling around with feedback loops. I have the Jomox T-Resonator and never used it for anything else but feedback/self oscillation and it’s a lot of fun when combined with some effects. Igorā€˜s apps are a fun playground for sound design but the UI is sometimes a bit… strange.

Not all his UI are…strange. SpaceFields is pretty straight forward. You can put absolute garbage in and get magic out the other end.
I just stick it on a bus regardless, and let it feedback itself to oblivion. Sometimes it stays in the mix, sometimes not, but it’s always there for texture in case.

That being said, his difficult UIs are fun, cause I have literally no f’in’ clue what I’m doing or what’s happening on the back end. And sometimes that’s a good thing.

Funny enough SpaceFields is the one, I haven’t got my head around yet! The other ones (save for BeatCutter) sort of make sense in their own way now.

And I definitely agree - half the fun is figuring the UI out and/or being surprised by the results.

I don’t think about it in SpaceFields. Just twist some knobs, let it do its thing.

Edit: I really have no clue what I’m doing in SoundScaper

Sound Scaper is the one I was actually referring to when I said strange. When you don’t use it regularly it’s always like youā€˜re opening it up for the very first time. But every time I open it and listen to the last saved state I always think ā€that sounds really interestingā€œ.

Ha ha, me too! But I think BeatCutter really takes the price for abstruseness - I almost more consider it an interactive artwork.

I put some sounds in there, sometimes nothing comes out no matter how I set things, sometimes magic happens, and it gives me stuff, I coudn’t get otherwise.

I only see it at $14.99 whereas it’s been $9.99 in the past…unless I’m missing something?
