iPad Music Apps?

Yeah the bizarre decision to scrap line out’s on the iPads is idiotic, I have a Pro 2015 which has a line out and haven’t upgraded based on that. I have an iPhone 7 with a lightning to line out/phones cable instead which came with it and doesn’t work at all. As much as there are many things I love about the iPad, there are just as many things I can’t stand about it and Apple. There are many things which should be simple tasks that they make difficult or expensive to achieve. Definitely a love/hate thing for me.

I wouldn’t trade my usb c port to get a headphone jack back. 0 issues with the adapter if I need. There’s plenty of other solutions (hubs with audio ports, interfaces, etc), all which work fine.

Line outs don’t require any cabling or external devices, they just send audio out. Imagine buying a synth that didn’t have audio outputs. I’m glad you’re happy with it, but for me I find it ridiculous. :grinning:

I’d be totally fine with a synth that did only usb audio
To me it’s far more worth it to me not to have have to carry around a hub, a cck, and a power source just cause I wanna plug in a controller.
If it’s just you an an iPad, headphone jack is conviennt, but didn’t make any difference to me if the cable was plugged into the top or the bottom of the device. I usually have more connected, so there’s always line outs to be had.

The thing I like about the headphone out is that even with just a plain stereo interface plugged in you can still get 4 assignable mono outs (using Audiobus)

After allowing it in Audiobus the 4 outs appear in other apps like AUM and Auria

To anyone that might have both (although the latter was just released, if I’m not mistaken):
FRMS vs. BLEASS SampleWiz 2 - any opinions?
On paper, FMRS seems more capable. But… features is not everything, and as times go by I’m more drawn to FUN and immediate, well designed interfaces (ie. Samplr is still probably one of my most-used app on iPad, besides its limitations).

Admit it, you just want that samplewiz icon…

Sorry to ask probably a basic question but this thread is huge and it’s hard to find what I want…

I’ve only ever played about with the iPad for music but I’ve decided to use it a bit more seriously this year. What I want to do is use it as a sound source for my akai force. My plan is to make loops on the iPad on the sofa and then import/upload them to the Force in a separate session for further elaboration. Essentially I want to write riffs on the sofa. My understanding is that I need some sort of app (AUM?) to host my sequencer, synth and FX of choice. After that, how do I record the loops? Does AUM handle that as well? Is it smart enough to allow the loops to be captured after a couple of passes so as to incorporate FX tails?

AUM does have record buttons for audio for each track, so you can record each track (dry intrument + wet FX) or just the master…but I believe you also need Audioshare app (by same dev) to access the recorded files, this is how I’ve use it. You MAY be able to record audio in AUM without Audioshare, tbh I haven’t tried without Audioshare. You might want to give Loopy Pro a go, it’s free download and trial for 7 days, so no loss if doesn’t work out. Loopy Pro is an AU host just like AUM.

Loopy pro is a great choice

You can load in sequencers to triggers synths, drums etc. Add fx and route to a loop and record. Then export the loops

Don’t sleep on Drambo. It is an Elektron workflow combined with an AUv3 hosting environment like AUM and a fully modular environment (if you are so inclined).

I have built myself a Mutable Instruments groove box that has 3 drum tracks, Plaits, Elements, Rings, and Clouds, and two FX return channels. I have been sampling the results (doodles, loops, sounds) into my Live 2 and been really happy with the results.

Another vote for drambo. It‘s nicer for hosting instruments than loopy. The internal sequencer is a big plus.
Resampling to audio or export audio is super quick.

But loopy is nice too. For me the big plus of loopy over drambo is the arrangement window to finish a track, but if you just want material for your Force and finish stuff there, I think drambo is the the best app for coming up with stuff

I can’t be the only one who sees Gary Glitter every time I see that icon.
It really isn’t a good thing, that’s one gang you don’t want to join :confounded:

Are there any sequencer apps that allow step record input? (Ie. advance to the next step after inputting a note)

In the Rozeta Sequencer suite by brambos, there is one app called Cells. It works great for this
