Introducing Analog Heat +FX

Hey folks, how are you enjoying your AH+FX in 2026? I have this vacation-induced GAS to line it up alongside ST and DT2 and I wonder if any of you could give me a reason not to do it:)

I’ve been thinking about it these days too. I have a small space that would be perfect… but it’s still a bit pricey. I’ve noticed one thing, though: some stores have stock, and many others are out of stock and don’t seem to be taking any more, ā€œsold outā€ā€¦ that’s it. Maybe something new will arrive next fall. Tonverk has a lot more effects than other Elektrons, who knows…

The most fun I have with it is when I’m printing it to single instruments or buses.

It can be fun to run at the end of a full daw-less signal path but it feels more constrained there since you’ve got everything in your signal path flowing through it. I almost never use the majority of the distortions and fx when it’s affecting a whole mix since it often makes it a muddy mess unless you’re very subtle with it (though sometimes you strike gold with the proper extreme settings!).

So currently I’ve got it in strict mixing mode connected to bitwig, where I run almost everything through it individually (needing to commit quickly since you can only run one instantiation of the plugin) and it’s turned mixing into a more fun and creative process for me. This ends up making the device feel much more playful and I’ll use much more weird and intense settings on things since it’s just individualized moments and only certain instruments.

So basically I feel like I’m really using the ah+fx to its ā€œfull potentialā€ when I mix with it rather than as an end of chain device.

Yes, that’s my concern as well - being at the end of it’s road. Not as a concept, but more as a form factor. Although feature-wise it’s at the maximum of what I’m willing to deal with and also I’d be happy to have all the mastering feats + the modulation/ follower is a biggie. Price is price - I’m not worried as this is what makes me happy.

yeah i do what was stated above. go sounds i think need something and mangle the hell out of them. great for making mud pies lol. always get something great from it. i just got my heat +fx 3 or 4 weeks ago. i have had/have the mk2 heat for the last few years and i resample damn near all of my tracks through it when i make music. so the +fx version is even better for me. sometimes i dont feel like grabbing pedals off the shelf so i have this box and the plugin ready at all times. such a beast. never end of chain really, unless i am sitting at my modular station.

Dude it’s a crazy nice device to have strapped onto either of those (DT2 and Syntakt are my primary boxes too).

Using the filters, especially the high-pass in combo with the EQ when working the mutes is really good for smooth, impactful buildups and drops that sound really classy.

I also have a pad on a MIDI controller that immediately sets the feedback of the DT2 delay to self-oscillation when pressed, and sets it back when released. I always have a few high frequency sounds like claves or hats sent to the delay, so that is used with the Heat EQ and filter to really work some DJ style tricks on my patterns.

The bass EQ on the Heat really sounds good when boosting, and combined with using the high-pass with around 25-30% resonance to accentuate the low frequencies, you can really dial in a very juicy bass profile.

I haven’t even mentioned the drives, which I use at all times. Saturation is always on at a minimum and I use all of them. Rough crunch and classic distortion are really great and the envelope follower set to increase or drop the drive level depending is crazy useful for making patterns pump hard.

Judging by how I tend to use the FX track on the ST, I’d be all over p-locking verb and delays or using the lfo for modulation. Am I right to assume that this is the only elektron device that has envelope follower? Is it possible to set the follower to modulate lfo?

Yes, afaik it is the only one with an envelope follower (and previous AH models). It can modulate MANY parameters of LFO 1 and LFO 2.

P-locking from another Elektron sequencer is very fun. On my DN2 I have Tracks/Channels 15/16 set up with MIDI ccs for a lot of the controls that aren’t quickly accessible on heat- this also opens up FUNC+RELOAD/Perform Kit resets for AH+FX from that other sequencer

Previous AH lacks envelope follower

Edit: apparently they all have

I own a MK1 and there is indeed an envelope follower

Yes they all have the envelope follower.

beep beep bumping this as I think the XY needs to process drum synthesis thru this mf :dove:

idk how some of you see the +fx but as i was able to snag one in trades and basically since the microcosm I watched this area of idk ā€žexperimental multi fxā€œ which made chase bliss pedals so inspiring when connected two or more of them, these different layering fx, running on audio response and attenuation but also chroma console, OTO line up, gamechanger audio velocity responsive pedals… and ever thought which one could be the line to connect with but it never did, either too expensive in collecting but a no no to operate or simply tooo simple for one piece that needs cabling and power, it came to me by reading the manual of the ahfx that with the amount of modulation and the audio triggered envelopes it can be used to synthesize these pedalboards of doom, for me it sits right there, deleting the urge for any of them ^^

i mean slewed lfos and envelopes on all of the available mod sources in 512 presets, already in luv+fx :duck:

Joystick Control (passive) which gets fed the CV track from the XY and controls filter cutoff and delay time on the heat ^^ for instance it’s fun :star_struck:

Still no midi message to trigger envelope and lfo ? Kinda worked with CV in but…:meh:

Machinedrum…

Update to trigger envelope and lfo with a midi message ?
IIRC they said it wasn’t that simple.
Dunno why…

I’ve been waiting a trigger midi message for 10 years. May buy AH again if they implement it.

The price of it now is prohibitive

How are you ppl controlling AHfx with your other elektrons? I have one on order and will set it up ST>DT2>AH. Thinking of dedicating couple of DT2 midi tracks to it

yes, I think that’s what iam using the midi track on the xy for (sequencing the heat) but it’s pretty hands on, would benefit from tweaks like using yes/no to scroll the flow-page and fx etc etc and if theyā€˜re really going to +fx the community it would a good thing after two years to introduce idk 8 new fx and a flow page for the modulation  add 1 lfo designer and 2 looping A/D envelopes and a special ā€žsupertoneā€œ voice or wavefinder and this thing will flyyy

you can really feed it the most basic Eurorack sequence and if you set the mod speed to 1:1 with slewed random voltages with different levels of depth this really does all this filtering and bit reducing, time modulation, pitchshifting which basically never is the same once it has played a sound because the combination of modulation will keep the vibe but most often surprise you with things you’re deep connected within your chompi/chase bliss lossy-mood-brothers am-lost+found adventures :women_with_bunny_ears:
pls Elektron this box could go deep sea level if you just do it, fill it with +fx and +modulation so anyone will buy one, it will be your new Digitakt (in sales)! :droplet::droplet:
