FromSoftware Games Thread

Looks like we’re going into the egg guarded by Mr NIHIL after all.

So it seems. Looks to be an area larger than Limgrave and with 10 notable bosses.

The big fiery thing looks like it could be a great challenge.

It does indeed look challenging! That grafted lion thing looks super cool. the dual swords held in reverse grip look fancy.

Grafted omen, that’s super cool.

Did you guys catch the martial arts style attacks? Couldn’t tell if bosses or our Hero…

In one of the interviews after the trailer launch, Miyazaki said there are 8 new weapon ‘types’ in the DLC. Makes me think that martial arts move set is one of these types. Very cool.

Next bring me a Bloodborne port.

Yeah spotted that. I think that’s a playable character move set. Maybe a new class?

At some point I need to actually make time to play Elden Ring. The DLC announcement has me hyped for it again. There are just so many good games to play right now!

Now will be a great time to play as lots of people are jumping on again (myself included)!

Plus:

This is accurate. It’s the same style but they polished some of the rough edges that made the DS series a bit less forgiving.

EDIT: There are a couple bosses you’ll bang your head against. One optional one not.

I’m gonna be honest and say for me, as a fan of FromSoft since Otogi on the Xbox, Elden Ring is my least favourite game in the SoulsBorne saga other than Dark Souls 2. But the funny thing is, the quality of these games is so high that I had a blast with even my least favourites!

My favourite things about Elden Ring revolve around multiplayer co-op. My friend bought and posted to me a copy of the game, and we spent many evenings traversing the world together, taking turns in each others’ worlds, getting stronger, finding out favourite weapons and triumphing over ridiculous foes.

It didn’t get talked about much here, but I absolutely loved Armored Core 6. Such a fun platinum trophy to earn. Can’t believe how well they updated the AC formula and how much fun the combat is compared to the earlier games. Very excited for the DLC for this game.

I haven’t gotten very far but just can’t get into Elden Ring.

My fav thing about 1-3, Bloodbourne and Sekiro was the semi artfully crafted paths of enemies and areas.

I’ve tried Elden Ring a handful of separate times and it just fails like random camps of enemies I can plow through thrown in between guys so beyond my level, I just have to run.

Semi related tangent. Lies of P was fantastic! I like it better than several of the actual souls games. But 2 is one of my faves so take that with a great of salt ha.

I actually can’t stand open world games nor FromSoft games. But for some reason, Elden Ring is like an inverse Venn Diagram where two things I don’t like comes together to a way that actually feels satisfying.

The massive difficulty of Elden Ring made ANY accomplishment feel incredibly rewarding. Every found site of grace and map became a dangerous site-seeing tour. It just felt REALLY GOOD to me!

(Also, I got to the first official boss of Lies of P and cursed profanity on my way out) :grinning:

What makes it your least fav soulsborne game in the series?

I love it the most, I feel like the feeling of adventure and exploration is unmatched compared to their other games. It all started with Bloodborne and then Sekiro for me, haven’t finished any Dark Souls yet, gave it a couple of tries but couldn’t click with those games. I liked Demon’s Souls remastered, one of the most visually stunning games I’ve ever played.

Super hyped for the DLC - Miyazaki confirmed it will be their biggest expansion yet, with 10 bosses to fight and plenty to explore in an area bigger than Limgrave.

I like them all for their quirks. In my view, every soulsborne game From has put out has been worth playing through multiple times, regardless of any negatives each game may have.

In fact, Elden Ring was the last full priced game I purchased at release and then went on to finish, and I finished it maybe four times in a row? Nothing else in the full priced, ‘AAA’ style game sector has been remotely interesting. I’m hoping Dragon’s Dogma 2 changes that next month, because I had a lot of fun with the first one.

That’s soo true. I love Fromsoftware so much that I own all of their games (excluding AC6, but that might change soon :eyes:) on both the PS5 and Steam and they play great on the Steam Deck.

I’m finishing ER on the deck right now and it’s perfectly playable, DS1 and 3 play even better, highly recommend

I was thinking about getting a Steam Deck a short while ago, but then I spent all the money on synth gear instead. Oops.

It’s honestly a question I struggle to answer. The open world works as a way to provide the player a sense of adventure while travelling between enclosed areas such as dungeons, castles and boss areas, where the classic gameplay is still very much alive and well. I also like picking herbs and flowers like in classic open world RPGs, and crafting items for later use. But there’s something so unfocused about Elden Ring. It’s like there are all these little dungeons everywhere which after a first playthrough, I have no interest in visiting again in NG+. I think NG+ is the biggest issue for me - it felt like a trudge through all the stuff I did before. Whereas in all other SoulsBorne games, NG+ was my favourite thing. In Elden Ring I just want to start the game again without NG+.

It’s hard to put into words but these things put me off Elden Ring. It’s a super fun game and very ambitious. It’s lovely to see my favourite developer trying new things. There’s just something missing for me, and I can’t quite put my finger on it.

I’m a huge fan of From, been playing their games since early PS1.go back and try out the kings fields, otogi 1+2, shadow tower ( especially abyss it’s excellent and you can really see how it’s leading into demons …)

The Armored Core VI Pilot’s Manual made by Future Press books is very nicely done. Future Press always has high quality books and seem to have a tight relationship with From Software.

The Elden Ring books Vol 1 and Vol 2 are worth the price as well if you can find them.

Future Press is also doing a re-release of the Dark Soul Trilogy Compendium that is up for pre-order.

I regret not following FromSoft’s PS1 and PS2 games. I was foolish enough to trust the gaming media, who trashed all their games of those eras.
