I don’t see this.
Like, at all.
I’ve seen both on stage, music nor personalities don’t compare… ![]()
Apart from the global fatherfucka attitude, maybe.
Wat, because they’re raising their voice now it makes them a Peaches rip-off?
Come on man, that’s a lazy comparison. I get that a lot of people that were really into the first album might not be fans of the last two (for what it’s worth the debut is still by far my favourite) but you can just say “it’s not for me” you know.
Saw them yesterday at Field Day.
Fucking brilliant set, Karin really knows how to bring the sinister, their mannerisms and movement were full of subtle little things that created this whole character on stage, and they performed with such presence. The whole band were excellent, really great performers and they managed to build a set that felt really liberated and full of sex without being cheesy or cheap (unlike Arca, who went the full sex swing later on and made it a bit awkward for a bit).
My wife is a massive Jon Hopkins fan and he was due on another stage about 20 minutes in to Fever Ray, so I wasn’t expecting to see all of their set, but she stayed for the whole thing, she couldn’t take her eyes off it, and neither could I, one of the best performances I’ve seen.
Which was lucky, cos what we saw of Jon Hopkins after was a bit meh.
That’s awesome. Fever Ray have some tour dates on the west coast of the US but nowhere near where I am… but I’d drive a long way to see them perform if they played anywhere over here. Huge fan.
I saw fever ray a few years ago and it was honestly the best performance I’ve been to. Incredible celebratory energy from the performers and audience. So excited to see them again in October!!
The lady in the gold catsuit was excellent, pure sex and energy, which really added something to Karin’s leery old ghoul thing.
Yeah I caught the last bit, sounded surprisingly “big room” (well, big stage). Didn’t really do much for me. Have enjoyed seeing him in the past though
Yeah, I think it’s all just a bit too “been there, done that” with him.
Plus it got dangerously close to being trance music at one point.
I don’t think he adapted all that well to the setting, it would have worked better at night, as big screen visuals and lights don’t really do much when it’s as bright as it was.
I think one of the things that made Fever Ray so good was how they managed to adapt to/transcend the situation of a big sunny stage and still perform on their own terms, Hopkins just felt a bit out of place almost.
Saw Fever Ray here in Stockholm back in June, absolutely loved it to bits, been a fan of The Knife since I was about 12, with Radiohead they were the first bands that tickled my interest for electronic music. Finally seeing Karin do her thing live was pretty cool after such a long time listening to her music.
Right after Fever Ray that night, Aphex Twin played a fucking incredible glitch set
I enjoyed their Glastonbury set this year ( watched on tv ) but I had seen a previous gig on YouTube which was much bigger , many more people on stage and even more of a spectacle.
I can imagine being in a smaller venue it would be great - somewhere Like koko / village underground.
I haven’t been to a gig for ages - last was b12/morphology/firescope night … need to get out.
I was there too, fever ray was with a similar group as previous tours I was them.
Was great, I was a bit confused with aphex twin, but was happy to be there.
Aw, nice! I gotta say I didn’t know what to expect from that set so was pretty confused for a short while until I just let it go and let myself fall into the glitchfest. Had a confused blast with it
I loved the visuals, spent a good time mesmerised about the variety of it, tied the set together really nicely in my opinion.
I don’t really have much to contribute other than it’s so lovely seeing all of this support for a gender non-conforming artist
“Shaking the Habitual” is one of my favorite albums ever, and now I find out about Fever Ray! Excited to listen to their new stuff!!
Their LD is a friend, so I got to watch the Helsinki show from the booth in June. Had a great time, made all the better by getting to chat with Sarah about lights. They’re, to no surprise, also really nice to work with.
That was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Musically and visually. Absolutely loved it!
Bummer there aren’t any non-Festival European dates left for this year. Do you expect mor dates next year?
I saw them (I know it’s just Karin, but she really brings in the other musicians to a great extend, so it really is a group thing) at Roskilde Festival this summer, and the concert was absolutely great. A few tracks were ‘remixed’ live. The track Mustn’t Hurry ended with a pretty intense clubby remix with an insane bass that went on for some time.
Also, I saw a Sequential and a Moog on stage. There was another keyboard, but I was kneedeep in rosé at that time and don’t quiet remember which brand.
The reason people are saying “them” not “her” is because that’s Karin’s preferred pronoun, not because it’s a group thing.
i’ve been obsessed since silent shout
i’m surprised there isn’t an entire thread dedicated to the sh-101 bass and lead sounds on “kandy”
