Facebook even worse?

I saw a nice girl modelling some clothes she was selling, which had surprising little fabric, so clicked the link for a better look at her and now it thinks women’s clothes are my thing.

Saying that, I don’t look half bad in the dresses and thongs I’ve since bought.

That’s called noise IMO. Not a necessity.

The problem with Facebook etc is it generates addiction to a stream of noise. That’s the “content” the use to collect data and advertising revenue.

It’s necessary for Facebook owners to enrich itself. But it’s not a human need. In fact it’s disruptive to how human actually are. We need to communicate substantially - not to chimp at each others’ lives.

No one needs Facebook. We have all the tools we need to connect meaningful with people ourselves.

Hm, you’re probably right
This being said, I’m happy to know more or less what’s going on in my place (like who’s getting a new job, who played to that gig, who’s traveling in my area, who’s in love, who died, etc.)

That’s exactly why I checked out. But it’s a shame I have to miss out on the updates from friends that are buried within the noise.
I want to use the time for something else. I’m keeping WhatsApp, Discord, Youtube on my phone as well as various music platforms. Instead of pointless scrolling, I will:

  • take the time to actually message a friend to see how they are doing.
  • watch some video on music gear I actually have. Interested in the concept of micro-learning, things like @NearTao’s 5 minute videos on sp404mk2
  • listen to a piece of music
  • join in a discussion about music or music gear
  • also need to stop carrying my phone around everywhere I go, and just check in on it occasionally

At least that’s the theory anyway! I wish there was an app for elektronauts actually…

If i were genius Elon, i would have found a way to short my own stock. If i were a betting man, i would bet big genius found a way around stock trading laws, he knew what was going to happen when he fired half the company.

If i had any money for investing, i would have used ALL of it to short “Truth social” LOL

not to slight what’s worthy of your attention, but the reason I can’t be on FB is that people interact with AI dogshit so much all the algorithm recommends now (far more than anyone I know or care about) is generative image groups and weird thirst trap reels, many of which are also questionably “real” from the screenshot

it takes a second or so to type in a few words and similar to upload them in bulk, the entire internet is flooded with sludge content and with Google redesigning their classic search to eliminate contextual results I’m finding what I want online less and less and just being less online.

Better for my sanity, and for my work I guess?

I quit using Fakebook and feel a lot better.

I think Facebook is seriously broken.

I don’t know why, but I get so much AI generated images of “ancient” made up alien stuff - I “told” the algo countless times I don’t like to see such things, etc, but it just ignores it.

Its an ai image gully without any use to me any more. Only s#it.
Its a timewasting useless… I don’t know why it exist.

same with most social media sites. I really prefer plain forums now. Less garbage to worry about.

When they started pushing all those “Reels” that I did not want to see onto my account I really backed off from Facebook. Now I get on once a week, check birthdays, and check the two groups that I created, family and retirees that I worked with.

Honestly, I don’t know that it is any worse now than it was back when everyone was playing that stupid Farm game.

Same here, this is all I see. So wierd. I am on Facebook for just a few music-related groups, but it is physically painful every time I have to visit. Gives me a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach.

And on top of that they make it so hard to get to the info you want. Have to click like 5 buttons just to get to a certain group.

Damn the AI crap really annoys me. Takes someone 3 secs to create OMG SUCH A LOVELY … and takes me 1 sec to see it’s AI shit that took 3 secs to make… why for the love of god… and all i really want is to follow up on music, family, and friends

Feels like they’re shooting themselves in the feet with recommending trash to their users

Edit: atleast back in the day you had to cook the damn meal before you posted annoying posts about it

Algorithms reward interaction and repetition and generative “content” is something that is far easier to shit out at rapid pace than any artist could keep up with.

They don’t give a shit so long as they serve up ads and keep people refreshing the endless scroll.

Similarly Google no longer seems to care that people find their search useful so long as people click ads.

They must realize that this has diminishing returns? If all i see is AI crap I’ll be much less inclined to go back. I’ve been using facebook A LOT LESS lately due to that shit. Surely they’ll have to notice these changes in traffic patterns soon?

It’s serving more ads than ever and their posting about internal “AI” products makes investors think that someone else will think the value of their stock will go up.

All the big tech companies are stuck in that hyper-capitalist loop where they don’t need useful products , they don’t need actual users, they can servr bot content to bot users and sell a fuckton of ads by defrauding ad purchasers.

It’s a bit cliche to say that we are the product to be sold, but with the internet moving from amateur hosted and developed sites to 4-5 massive site ecosystems, all posting screenshots of the other, there’s nothing but disdain for users. We’re not needed, they don’t need us.

I think the only time i use it now is when i’m taking a big dump, and that is a perfect metaphor for what i think of most social media.

I follow clubs that’s it. They usually have someone working on the stuff.

I don’t know, I just see things from ‘friends’ (in the FB sense of the term).

I sometimes get surges of ads but after hiding them for a day or so, they stop appearing for a long time.

I still get ‘reels’ and group suggestions, but I just ignore them.

You’ll love this…

Let me guess… wrong again, as per usual with that … person?
