if you’re only using it to get into the groups you’re a part of, just keep them fresh in your search history and you can skip the feed and go directly into them.
had same experience lately when went back to facebook after something like a 3-4 year absence, I needed it for the marketplace and was stunned how my feed was filled with very poor generated images and ads from pages/profiles I have zero connection to and never ever followed/had any interest, I started blocking and reporting stuff but it doesn’t help, new things were emerging by the hour, once I’ve completed the search on marketplace I’ve closed the tab hope not to go back ever.
I still have some pictures stored there that I’ve categorized over the years I was active and do have some contacts I talk to so I don’t want to completely close the account, so I’ll be visiting quarterly to see if I have any messages, otherwise I couldn’t find a way to minimize the clutter and it’s pretty intolerable.
Yeah I’d assumed there’s basically no way now to get rid of this stuff.
It’s only in the last couple of months I’ve realised I’m just scrolling through complete garbage. It’s become a time thief. I think you’re right, it’s time to log out and only visit occasionally. I could spend that time learning something about music, talking to a human, or reading a book!
I’m going to do that right now
I don’t know, I systematically reject ads or group suggestions and after a while they disappear and I only see things from “friends”
No way to get rid of reels and short videos, though :-/
I’m using a chrome plugin like Social Media Fixer, which does things like hiding sponsored and recommended posts, friends, replaces dates like “5 hours ago” with normal timestamps. But it’s a competition, they (Fb) endlessly rewrite their front ends and api, so eventually such plugins deteriorate
Urgh facebook is a dumpster fire.
Sorry for the previous pre-edit rant, I’ll see myself out
woah didn’t know this one survived, I was using this long time ago and I remember them posting something like “facebook ia doing things that prevent us from continuing development” as in random css class names and nested html so they can’t track the noise posts, glad to hear it survived, I remember it really helped cleaning the feed
I agree with your previous rant. F facebook.
If you’re still on Facebook it means that you’re part the problem.
As hard as that is to accept, you’re not wrong. One votes with ones feet, i struggle to leave, but i use the service progressively less every week due to their recent degradation these past few months
I’d gladly leave it, but I live abroad and FB is my last connection with a number of people from home
Exactly that, and the problem is that no-one actually wants to join Mastodon (or similar) en masse.
I wouldn’t use it without it. Hmmm, maybe that’s part of the problem too.
That’s how I feel about Twitter/X and Reddit, and probably only a matter of time before FB is more trouble/annoyance than it’s worth.
Haha yeah i ditched that cesspool hard when the muppet took over
They don’t have email or a phone?
I think it’s funny that Elon is what broke twitter. I didn’t like it before he bought it, i thought it was a waste of time, just as i did after he bought it. I don’t understand why people get so fixated on people that they like or hate products associated with those people? It’s the same when they sell shit, just because some actor likes some product, i never go buy a thing. I think people who buy Trumps schwag are chumps, but what do i know?
It was bad before indeed. But sometimes you know what certain individuals will bring to the table when they take over a company like that, and my presumptions appear to have been right.
Yeah, I’m the same. I’m also X twitter. Which is I’m assuming why it was renamed?
Yeah, you know how it is
Not every bit of information deserves an e-mail or a phone call
