Facebook even worse?

I woke up the moment I got a 20 euro discount for a 5 euro advertisement in one of my own groups which had 500++ members in two and a half months due to the content and then from one day to the next not a single new member appeared except strangely transparent fakes. Apart from the strange math they might have thought i could fall for, the business model of artificial limitation was very easy to see through. That’s why I gave them the maximum penalty. Instagram and all the other metastases are therefor useless as well. It’s basically reduced to fraud.

I was born in a land full of fictions about the other side and escaped by revolution and i swor myself I will never ever be part off another artificial fiction yet alone one that earns money with my life.

@tha_man

useful for events,

reminds me in the booker who i (sadly) got to know who booked solely on the amount of followers an artist page had shown 4 weeks prior booking. I told her back in the days artists where recommended cause they where simply good or venues risked something in trust and most of those golden discoveries where total unknown, no social network involved at all. (talking Berlin here) Which made her tell me that followers are an super easy indicator and her job would be so cool cause she made more than the club manager. Long story short: so recommending her she could apply at a very specific big venue, which she did just 2 weeks later. The venue is bankrupt today. I don’t know if there is a causal connection.

I regularly review the supposed interests each of the socials thinks I’m interested in — it’s such a bizarre list full of things I have no interest in or have ever clicked on / interacted with.

I have noticed an increase in the use of ‘boomer’ , it’s like people have discovered a new derogatory word.thats been around for years and years … a way to criticise an entire generation of people and feel smug about it.
And tbh - I don’t think I’m a boomer … 53 yrs old … but it has appeared a lot over the last week.

I like that Facebook exists! It distracts a lot of delusional folks from trying to tell me their opinions!

Zuck decided being a trillionaire wasn’t enough money for him, so he’s constantly looking at ways for FB to generate more money at your expense.

I’m so happy that I’m not alone. Tried FB many years ago - artificial world. Very well depicted in “Black Mirror” series. But the fact that I’m an introvert is another story…

Maybe it was only happening to me, but it seemed like a lot of people were posting updates every five minutes about how they just had a cup of coffee, or they were headed to the bank etc. Just the kind of shit where I can’t even imagine why you would want to keep people in the loop about your peanut butter sandwich.

I was never much of a myspace person either and this was some escalation of that which I wasn’t prepared to accept. I didn’t really even have the facebook account for very long, but it was long enough to get annoyed with that particular facet of it.

Lol, yeah that was the norm like 10+ years ago. I think that’s what Instagram is for nowadays, on FB this was replaced by conspiracy theories… not really an improvement, but at least it’s more fun

This.
Reverb, ebay etc have fees, gumtree is stuffed, private niche groups for buying selling synths or whatever, using facebook to do it. Makes a lot of sense, Ive only ever had positive experiences doing that.
I dont use facebook for anything else.

A client told me the other day, young people dont use Facebook either. Only ‘old’ people, where ‘old’ = over 30…

The scariest aspect of Meta is not FB or IG per se but their further attempts to build a virtual reality and AI. And what’s next? Neurochips? Nano machinery? Neuro-cortex?

People who did THIS… can you trust them in their … ehm. Vision?

Facebook literally killed a possibility of spontaneous and healthy discussion in internet. With pre-filtered and ranked posts and comments, amplification of specific topics to increase engagement along with brutal and senseless censorship (which did not prevent meddling with the elections btw and does not prevent literal fraud and scam advertisements and even darknet ads).
And the engine of like something from 2005 in regards to a comment structure. Oh my god! I am expanding a comment tree! Marvelous technology!

Another topic - my friend tatto artists are really upset about shadowbans on Instagram even for already censored and “safe” content. Just because of naked bodies, because… just don’t do it, that’s all, thanks.
They literally lose their audience because of less exposure or even direct bans.
Famous hypocritical censorship of nudity and adult matters. Even named incredibly wrong as “community guidelines”. Who is this community and why “community” has no voice there?

All the good synths. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, I’ve seen ads for bags of magic mushrooms which are class A (very illegal) here.
Erica Synths and Behringer group pages getting porn posted to main page.
Classy place.

Ok wow! This is new. Sorry for politicising the thread. Not my opinion, just an example.

Truth! I ditched FB a few years ago, I’m considering doing the same with Reddit. Nonstop arguing, misinformation, rampant misogyny, etc. It only got worse with last year’s API changes.

How is Tiktok for this kind of thing? I absolutely see the necessity of a business like tattoo’s as needing social media account for obvious reasons…

Interesting. I will ask… Videos are a bit more difficult to produce and tiktok is more for memes and stupidity  I used it only without login, so not really sure how ads are working here.

The reply was “it’s the same crap”… There is a list of banned words like “blood” and if you need to post even partially naked people you’d better use tag “fakebody”.

I’m completely sick of how Facebook is. I’m sure it’s got worse in the last 6-12mth. I want to keep it because I do actually use it for half a dozen music groups, and talking with people I don’t see often.

But every time I log in, at least 90% of my feed is bot pages, fake imagery and not even well written AI text, recommended pages (follow me, follow me), non-relevant shorts, ads and other crap. It feels like reading an advertising and opinion reel which real people occasionally pop up in.

Is there any way to cut out or minimise the crap and just have actual posts from people I know? I probably know the answer already, I might have to just can it completely…
