Erica Synths PĒRKONS HD-01

You lose volume control too. The Perkons compressor is pretty unique and adds a lot to the sound for me. I’d rather track out of the main outs. I’ve done both ways and the results were much more defined and focused kick drum through the Perkons compressor.

Thanks for that. Was curious about the kicks tbh

Didnt expect to see him use one (looks like he is using the black one on Instagram clip)

The PĒRKONS HD-01 gained attention in the Daft Punk universe when co-founder Thomas Bangalter used it during a rare, surprise live hardware performance at the “Warehouse Artefacts” event during Art Basel in Switzerland

Here he is using it live alongside Fred Again:

who pairs perkons with what? I have tried minilogue but didn’t get on - then I have tried lyra 8 more successfully, but a bit too random - anybody have any suggestions?

I’m kinda loving my MPC Live 3 pairing with it so far (still experimenting). I’d also recommend hooking it up to an Echolocator (that FX unit it bonkers) - and then randomly click on the freeze button.

What trouble were you having?

One of the reasons I love Perkons is that I find it’s easy to gel with everything I use. I find it especially good for stuff that isn’t strictly electronic either. Idk, think radiohead ish, with some guitars and other rock stuff layered in.

I struggled so hard to get the Analog Rytm to gel without hogging a mix and standing out too much with it’s sharp unique sound.

Perkons has more depth to the be discovered if you don’t max everything out too. The desire is strong though, it just sounds so good!

Try to purposely make a beat with zero drive, 12 o’clock or lower levels per voice and the comp gain really low.

Like seriously, try it nearly inaudible. Screw the noise floor for the experiment. Boost by 20 DB after the fact. It’s a different machine.

I find it really good for a Pan Sonic like vibe like this. The noise floor actually helps here and you hear a lot of little tappy, clicky stuff in the transients that sounds really alive and analog in a factory hum or test equipment glitching out kind of way.

Just don’t accidentally open another kit at normal volume and get blasted like I’ve done to myself :stuck_out_tongue:

really enjoying it too - i have a sound in my head when i play with it and it delivers every time, but then i think what if i could add pads or strings or something polyphonic and then i get a bit frustrated

Yeah I hear ya.

Just food for thought: Start with the pads and some layers going and then work Perkons into an already dense mix.

I’m far from an expert and still learning the craft but a lot of times when you make something that sounds great on its own, that’s usually not the sound that will play nice with others.

Perkōns probably goes well with Malört, but I’m not sure I’m prepared to buy an entire bottle of the stuff.

You’re giving me flashbacks. My boss makes it a point to bust that shit out at team outings.

had to google what that is - sounds tasty - most alcohol pleases me and goes well with perkons - for now tho I will try arturia microfreak loaded with 80s synth samples

I want the Perkons UI with softer, gentler drum engines.
Crazy how cute the blue one looks vs the sound that comes out

I really don’t know why all demos online focus on hard techno sounds. I had the same concern as you before buying the Perkons, but don’t worry: The drum engines are very flexible. You can make it sound softer and more gentle. The announced firmware update (cough…) will probably/hopefully bring even more flexibility.

Jeez, how long ago was that now?!

They teased new firmware in October of last year.
I think that it’s fine for a company to take their time with firmware updates and get them right and honestly, they don’t owe us anything.
BUT
Once you start teasing updates, it changes the picture. A couple of months or so is reasonable tease time but this gets into different territory. Reminding me of the feelings I had while waiting for Overbridge when I first got the DT.

So coming on to 9 months! You could have a baby quicker than this!

Agree, it’s mad to tell the world about an update when it’s not even close to ready!

You would think if they teased an update (which I believe was instigated by them) then they would be willing to share progress after 9 months lol

I think that’s the thing that they kinda F’d up TBH. You don’t announce product until it’s ready (or at least wait until you’ve met your MVP (minimum viable product). That said, the Perkons is a beast and I’m happy to wait for whenever they decide to release something, but they should keep their traps shut until they can push the big red button. I assume they are a small shop, so guess that they might have some issues with their backlog (new features over bug fixes to new releases) across product lines. They’ve been pushing out sick product these past few years - hope they can keep on keeping on and continue their revolution evolution with amazeballs hardware.
