I’m in a bit of a financial pinch at the moment so I’m thinking of letting my beautiful Perkons go to a new drum machine friendly home.
But I would really love to try the new FW out before!

Same! I am really curious how Erica plans to evolve this machine. I feel like it could have more tonal versatility in a few of the algos, which would take it to legendary status.
I will say that while it is not going to get the pillowy punch of a tanzbar, going no transient with a lower drive on Voice 2 can yield a really nice old school house kick.

I have a feeling it will be additional banks of synthesis algorithms. To me, that seems like one of the most realistic ways to expand the Perkons.
And Hexdrums are basically the best version of the Tanzbär. I stand by that =]

It’s perfect as is for me, but if I could change one thing It’d be the option to use the individual effects jacks as an insert effect instead of send/return. Not sure that’s possible with firmware though.
i am just using the perkons on it own at the moment and trying to get the most out of it that way before i add anything else - anybody else just using it by itself and has any tips?
I dont have a perkons but I do suggest you use it copiously with your 5th octatrack

And then Loopop does a great walkthrough where he literally goes through every algo. Then loads of other vids out there in the wild.
That said, take a reverb pedal (or some other funky pedal) and connect it to main out.

Idk what kind of sounds you’re gravitating towards but I would say to try it if got a day or two with the drives and volumes all very low.
Perkons has more range than you’d think because at first it’s so fun to crank everything.
Some other random thoughts and things to try:
- saving and launching kits with only very subtle changes. Maybe changes to the delay time etc.
- launching kits randomly in time while a sequence plays. Some happy accident potential.
- the gesture recording has really good resolution even when you subdivide a tracks lane. Record 8 bars of filter sweeps or whatever else nice and smooth (provided you have this setting turned on in the parameters.)
- don’t discount the groove setting

The Perkons has a very hot output and a lot of dynamics. Some pedals handle that beautifully, but others can end up softening the transients and taking away some of its punch. Personally, I’d probably use it on a send rather than process the entire mix.
