Okay, i figure that both oscs are being sequenced separately, but maybe im wrong here…
is this sort of arpegggiated effect possible using the lfo modes on the modulators?
The author of the video says that “only a little bit of stereo delay for the headphones” but this seems pretty drenched in delay.
thoughts?
The sounds in this video made me really want to acquire a Nyx.
Yeah, that video is awesome. If you are looking for an analog mono (duophonic actually) the Nyx is a killer option.
Thank you for your kind words!
The NYX is a paraphonic synth. So if you send two notes through, the lower note will be picked up by OSC1 and the higher note by OSC2. So you could sequence this on a single track if that track allows for at least 2-note polyphony.
I’d use an arpeggiator for that. If I’m hearing it correctly, it’s in Bb Major. Bassline seems to be something along the lines of Bb - G - Eb - F - Bb - Eb. Topline goes something like D - Bb(-1) - F - Bb(+1) - A - Bb(+1)
I don’t really hear much modulation in this one. They seem to be playing with the filter cutoff at times, very low resonance to no resonance, but it sounds like it’s done by hand, at least to my ears.
From 5:27 onward it sounds like they made the attack of the amp envelope even faster (rise fader all the way down?), which should give it that percussive, plucky quality at the beginning of the sound.
LOTS of delay on there!
Cool patch I came upon.
PW is being modulated by Hades Lfo on a pretty slow/moderate rate.
I believe osc2 was detuned down a fifth
…uargh…reading all this, i start to miss my nyx…a truu greece goddess of the night…
loved it soooo much…at first…but lost touch after a year…shame on me…
I feel you. I miss mine while I’m at work.
Ok; wow - nice that it’s based on the original too, though not identical and now Eurorack-compatible with a few more patch points too.
Yes!!! The only synth I truly regret selling…
Is the reverb external or from the instrument itself?
The Nyx comes with a variant of the Dreadbox Splash reverb as designed by Crazy Tube Circuits built in as a key component of its sound. I liked it so much I got a Splash module too eventually.
I ve been watching a Demo video with patches (VCO USa channel). It sounds beautiful! I am trying to expand my semi-modulars. I have a Softpop 2 and a Kobol Expander. Not sure if what I have already gives what can be done with Nyx. But I am also curious if this can also be used as an FX when I am using one of the others. Can I pass the audio through it and only use its reverb for example? That would be very appealing for example when using SP2 or Kobol.
Hmm; not sure as they haven’t put the manual online yet (the link on the page goes to the Erebus re-issue …oops) but it doesn’t look like it, unless the routing through the filters also goes through the reverb.
Thanks! I Will keep an eye on it. The more I learn and discover semi-modulars, the more I hate my decision to start my gear journey with Minilogue XD. I use it mostly as a midi controller now…
Very cool.
I absolutely love my v1. Such a fun synthesizer
Doesn’t look like the new one has the Crazy Tube Circuits reverb though, which is a shame as it was a big part of the v1 sound.
I wonder what would lead to a reissue of the v1? My understanding is that the v2 sounded different than the v1 largely because of the reverb (with most users sending accolades to the v1). Maybe they approximated the v1 reverb in a convincing way…
Argh, delete, that was the v1 homepage
(I thought the reissue page listed Crazytubes but it was actually the original homepage)
Seems like it doesn’t have MIDI over USB, right? Can’t open the manual online, but doesn’t look like it. Honestly too bad.
Wonder if it has the longer envelope times on the v2? The v1 attack/decay were a bit too short.
It’s listed as a DIY kit, so could possibly be customised?
Doesn’t mention the crazytubes reverb, so maybe same as v2?
Perhaps, though this is one of the Dreadbox re-issue series DIY kits which are mostly a matter of screwing the PCBs together with spacers, putting on knobs etc; no soldering involved.
It would be nice, but again the re-issues don’t seem to have that as an option. I imagine it’s the same sort of USB power connection as found on for example the Dysmetria, which slots into the Eurorack power connector and is removed when putting the module in a rack. I suppose in theory Dreadbox could have put a USB MIDI connection in too (they added a DIN MIDI connection via the Eurorack power slot on the first Hades DIY kit) but presumably decided against it.
