Dreadbox Murmux Adept

Its like they got a bloke walking past the shop to twist a few knobs. He appears clueless.

… but the synth still sounded pretty good. So imagine what youā€˜ll make with it !

Can someone explain in a bit more detail the LFOs work here?

I’m probably being dumb, but for the polyphonic LFO, what does it target? I can see that LFO B has a button to target pretty much any other control, but not sure how the polyphonic one works.

Also, am I right in thinking that this effectively has 2 LFO, one that targets all voices individually, and one that targets something globally?

I’m not that familiar with poly synths on the whole (I use a minilogue xd, which has a pretty basic LFO setup).

Yes. In the specs, the say 9 LFOs. The Global LFO and the 2nd LFO independent for each voice.

According to the Murmux manual the Poly LFO sends CV to the MOD knobs of the VCO and VCF sections. If a controller with Polyphonic aftertouch (or MPE) is used, each key can change the Poly LFO rate of the connected voice!

The LFO B can target all knobs and sliders, except its own and Volume

Edit: Both LFO can be free running or key synced, set independently.

This video from Ricky Tinez is worth a watch. It’s a Novation Peak but the knowledge can apply.

Sounds beautiful…

This is such a great explanation of this method. One of his best videos.

On Thomann.de and musicstore.de (the two biggest retailers in Germany), it also went from ā€žavailableā€œ to ā€žavailable in 1-2 weeksā€œ quickly. They must know how many they’ll get in the next batch and list it as not available as soon as it’s sold out?

Mine will ship today btw. Iā€˜m starting to regret my impulse purchase and hope it’s way too big/ugly and doesn’t sound too impressive . I already know a big poly doesn’t really have a place in my setup, so it would have to be a meditation machine that I use solo for recording sessions that I can later build upon.

That demo posted by @stnrp was a pretty convincing showcase how to use spread in a clever way. Iā€˜m a bit worried though that spread of voices and delay(s) is always linked, the stereo image might get messy pretty soon. Would prefer to have VCO and delay spread separated.

Edit: seems this has been leaked a year ago without people really noticing

Thomann is not listing it any more.

Time to wait for a v4

Oh well, then this is what I had expected, they de-listed it as soon as all the units of batch 2 were bought.

It’s interesting there’s almost no material on the previous Murmux editions online. I guess that’s a good sign meaning most people who bought one are just not making a big deal out of it.

I don’t need this, but I want it.

Here at Musicstore still available - with a bit of a delay (by date may 14th)

Same, it’s very tempting, but I’m also very wary of buying anything limited edition.

I always get way more agitated about that I can’t easily replace, worrying about moving it, or breaking it, and end up enjoying it less.

Plus I’m always worried about manufacturers supporting them less, with so few out there things like firmware updates and new features seem less likely (though probably not an issue for an analog poly  ).

Plus pretty much every bit of kit I own has some annoyances, gotchas, and pleasant surprises, so waiting until gear’s been thoroughly tested/reviewed is nice.

Though doesn’t stop me wanting this…
