Does mute only work when the built-in sequencer is running?
I’m sending midi from an app on my ipad (Lottery), and nothing seems to happen when I try to mute tracks (?)
Ah, ok, I just looked in the manual, it says “make sure a pattern is playing”. Fuck’s sake…this is fucking stupid
Mute simply stops the sequencer firing trigs, it doesn’t stop the audio at all or stop external midi triggered events. It would be nice if this was a per track option
In a way, it is logical: You want the sequencer to be muted. But you don’t want fading sounds to suddenly stop.
Can’t you mute in your app?
You’re right @mfk, it is logical, for the reason you state.
Frustrating though!
Thanks for your input. And thanks @impbox.
I think what they’d like in this context is the mute to stop incoming midi events from triggering the sounds? I’ve certainly wished for this feature, since it makes it much more useful if you’re sequencing externally, but it’s definitely not always desired, eg if you’re playing live via a midi keyboard or something. Having the option of Mute Mode: Sequencer/Notes/Audio would be awesome, audio makes sense in the case of things like long running drones or textures.
I’ve seen a few vids of people ‘hacking’ the DN by looping midi out back in to use the midi tracks to affect itself.
How about a setting to have midi loopback on a channel internally, while excluding clock/tempo signals?
maybe the simplest way would be to use the track layering function/menu: when you select a midi track and layer in a specific synth track, the routing is enabled.
You could visually indicate that by having the layered track icon be filled in wite but alternate/flash between a square and the clover shape, or maybe a slightly smaller circle.
When you layer other tracks, the midi track influencing them could be indicated with the same anmation, but filled with black like unselected tracks are.
Reload Page/Sound Undo
If you press page+no it reloads the page, but if you press it again it would be nice if it put it back how it was, same for trk+no.
LFO Preview
When a parameter is externally modulated via MIDI CC, you can see the modulation affecting the parameter, but when you modulate a parameter using the internal Digitone LFOs, you dont see it.
I believe it would be very practical for fine-tuning modulations to have some sort of visualization/preview of how a parameter is being modulated. If this is too resource-intensive, perhaps this visualization could only appear when holding down the page parameter button.
The possibility to have the effects to go into master overdrive with everything else. Bonus if we can select which effect, just as on Syntakt. But the way it is now, it sounds pretty bad when using master overdrive quite a bit (dull washes under a crisp surface) …
i fear i might be the only one with this desire or maybe even just confused on their role in peoples work flow . but i would love the ability to turn arpeggiator sequences into trigs. and while were at it, even converting changes you make with the transpose buttons into trigs . with the arp also maybe more options on playback too . like a random option. or ways to integrate the keyboard scale into it. or maybe a way to have arp options as lfo destinations.
id be very curious to hear peoples practical use cases for those two functions and how they fit in to their process while making songs on here.
also just to clarify when i say transpose i mean transposing a sequence. obviously i understand the usefulness of transposing the keyboards octave while playing. but even that can be done with the up and down arrows, so i do get a bit confused as to what makes those buttons useful enough to take up a two whole dedicated buttons)
another thing that might seem like a superficial request, i would love to see the lfos position and movement ON a given parameter. like say i send one to the phase distortion, id love to look at that parameter and see it following the lfo . i know obviously just using them more and getting used to it and using your ears is the obvious response to this , and i agree. but i think im just used to things like M8 or the OP1F where those modulations and movements are visual and it adds another layer of confirmation and quickness to it for me.
you’re not the only one, i would very much be down for this especially bc yellow trigs don’t lock certain (or any?) parameters between the trigs of an arp
i feel like the arp could potentially be converted to trigs in the same way it can be achieved with the euclidean sequencer
I get frustrated when changing the speed of a track sequencer (ex. switching from 1x to 1/4x) and then having all the lengths be too short to fill the new space. It would be great to have an option to have note length scale with the speed.
Also the ability to have probability affect notes coming in from track layering (ex. track 1 is controlling track 9, if you change probability on track 9 it would be nice if it also applied to the incoming notes from track 1)
Really I would like Elektron to add other reverbs (and so for DT and ST also). I don’t like it even if DNII is incredibly good.
Basically the main reason I’m excited for OB is to be able to use a different reverb with sends per track lol
It would be nice if there was a way to copy the envelope from the amp page to the filter page and vice versa. Could be as easy as copy and pasting the pages!
It would be cool to use the fill to use a Euclidean sequence or a decided lfo or delay etc…. Is this something people think about with fill to do something like that?
If you plock some fill trig’s…
You can already achieve what you want with fill cond and plocks
