Unless I misread the brief, there’s nothing in there saying that the song needs to be in a single time signature besides 4/4. For instance, you could have three measures of 7/8, a measure of 6/8, and a measure of 5/8. That’s a 64 step pattern that increases in urgency over the last two measures. A common way to mask the asymmetry is to craft a cohesive melody that extends across several measures. A great example is Paul Desmond’s saxophone playing the main theme of Take 5 by Dave Brubeck. Of course, all this is easier said than done so please take this with several grains of salt…

Just for a laugh I thought I’d come up with the most offensive beat I could.
It’s 7/8 with three 8s and three triplet 8s which makes a very broken sounding 7/8 that sounds like it’s constantly speeding up and slowing down.
I can only apologize!

Hey I thought I’d offer a couple of tips for people if they are struggling.
6/8 or 3/4 is probably the easiest thing to try as most people are familiar with triple time.
I imagine a lont of people will want to try something in 5/4 or 7/8 to go a bit crazier.
5/4 is like 4/4 with an extra beat think 5/4 by Gorillaz or Take 5
and 7/8 is like 4/4 but the bar feels like it ends too soon think Times like These by Foo Fighters
It’s really hard to think in 5 or 7 so try and break it down into 2s, 3s or 4s which are a bit easier to get to grips with.
For example if you think about Money by Pink Floyd which is probably the weird time signature song most people are familiar with if you count along it’s like 1, 2, & 3, 1, 2,
So it’s like 3 and then 2
The other tip expecially with drum and bass is to maybe not start with the break first (which I know a lot of people do), but try and find a repeating melodic figure and try to chop the break to that.
Try and get a melodic figure which wants to loop for example by feeling like the last note wants to resolve to the first note which creates that hypnotic feel.
That’s how the riff to Halloween I used works as do things like Tubular Bells or 2+2=5 by Radiohead or Salsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel.

Can confirm, the car I drove in my early 20s did this to me on the way to work one day. Sounded very similar in the seconds before it died. It didn’t even give me time to properly pull over. Just, horrible clangs and grinding noises and then I looked in my rearview mirror and saw all my oil on the road.

I wanted to contribute something for this mission, but my attempts so far have exclusively turned into shite 
My skills are awfully lacking in the dnb department, but at least I learnt a couple of things from my attempts so it’s not all in vain.
I’ll be following these super nice threads, and hopefully have something half decent to contribute sometime in the future. In the meantime, I look forward to hearing the tracks posted here

I’d suggest just bang something in.
It’s a friendly bunch. The first few things I put into mission briefs were like 1 minute long and super janky.
