Computer Video Game Recommendations

diving a bit deeper looks like the msi software is glitchy and currently a bit half baked. for an 8"+ handheld one would be better waiting for the legion go s (steamOS version) / legion go 2 I reckon. hopefully msi sort out the claw.

the rog ally X is prolly the best windows handheld at the moment if 7" screen isn’t an issue.

steamdeck oled is great. the shell feels a bit cheap in hand, but the controls are solid. it lacks in the horsepower department but mostly just works without much messing around. I’m still looking to upgrade to something a bit more beefy with a larger screen at some point tho.

I wonder is a half decent gaming laptop & a game pad would be a better option  ergonomics would be better not having a massive slate attached to the controller that’s for sure

Now that you mention the Ally X, I remember briefly looking into those a few months ago, it looks very nice. Comparing it to the Claw 8, and the Steam deck OLED, the weight on the Ally X stands out to me, it’s substantially lighter which would be better IMO. But I’ve held and used someone else’s Steam deck OLED for a couple minutes and I liked it / didn’t find it to feel heavy. I wonder how any of them would be for extended periods.

I guess I made the assumption that the Windows handhelds would have fewer compatibility issues. In fact, I have no clue if that’s true, and it’s also not to say there are many games that won’t play on the Steam deck. I’ve been told that a majority of games do run on it.

I think ultimately I’m not going to get enough use out of it right now to justify the purchase of any of them. But it hasn’t stopped me from looking at them…

Split Fiction!

Together with the predecessor „it takes two“ 2 of the best koop games i‘ve ever played.

The always changing game mechanics feels like a (time) travel through video game(play) history.

Yeah that’s what I figured, still gave me a nice chuckle in the morning.

no harm in looking

yea the steamdeck plays everything on steam. it gets a bit fiddly if you want to play a game you’ve bought on a different platform, say ubisoft store etc. then you have to go into desktop mode and mess around to get that launcher installed and running in game mode. whereas there’s no restrictions like that on windows based systems.

not the biggest deal if you have an external mouse & keyboard for the job, but using the steamdeck on-screen keyboard & trackpads in desktop mode can be a Royal pain in the aras. once you have the launchers installed it’s all good tho.

there’s a few games that don’t work cause of anti-cheat something or other. I don’t know much about them tbh, never played any.

I’m having an absolute blast playing Astro Bot on PS5, it’s up there with my favorite Nintendo games.

A Japanese take on ubisoft and assassin’s creed shadows. Pretty fun.

Just finished The Forgotten City. Can highly recommend it if you are into games like Outer Wilds. Not going to say anything about the story or gameplay, it’s best if you go in completely blind.

Anyone remember Tyrian 2000? I love playing that game every few years… It’s not too overwhelming in the beginning but not easy at the same time. Are there any other top down shooters like this available? Old or new, I don’t care

I just want a game that I can pick up casually without having to invest four hours to get the hang of it. That’s my main gripe with current games… Content is nice but most games feel like another chore to me because I have so many things to do. I just want to relax sometimes and I need a certain stimulation to do that. I want the flow without having to work for it.

Besides the awesome emulated View Point, there are quite a few good games out there today.

I played quite a bit of Minishoot, and it was quite fun! I actually think I should go back and play some more. I got distracted by other things, but it plays great, and I love the concept. I didn’t like it quite as much as say Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet with its more interesting art and puzzle-vania style, but it’s up there. I love anything with a smal ship that can rotate 360. Sinistar and onward. Great, now “I hunger!” Guess I’m playing Sinistar tonight on the MiSTer if I’m lucky enough to have some game time.

Did you all see that they shadow dropped Hainbach’s new studio in Stalker 2? Yeah, I guess he’s going to start a series of concept albums based on the Chernobyl incident. I don’t know, I imagine it sounds really sparse and clicky with unexpected groans interspersed throughout.
