Computer Video Game Recommendations

That’s good when you can manage to stay out of it, and just do what you’re there to do. That’s why I love doing tech work for a non-tech company now. They just trust me to do what I do here, and generally let me get on with it. Recently though they’ve shifted to being a bit more centralized, are doing the standard “we think we can make agile work for us” garbage, so everything is kinda stupid at the moment. Even with that nonsenese though, it’s better than any tech/game company that I’ve worked for. Keep painting!!

I’m playing Pillars of Eternity 2, and it’s fantastic. Even better than the first one, and the first one was a masterpiece. Highly recommended to anyone who cares about RPGs.
That said, I was very annoyed I couldn’t import my PoE1 saves because it couldn’t detect them.

is this the right thread to talk about new handheld gaming devices?

I’ve been looking at the new msi claw 8 & the upcoming legion go S steamOS, but I don’t want to be off topic here.

there doesn’t seem to be a general console’s thread.

POE2 is my exact sweetspot for perfect CRPG comfort gaming. I love that spells and special abilities replenish per encounter- it just makes things that much more FUN.

I’d say this thread qualifies. I’ve been meaning to pick up a Steamdeck OLED myself. However, I have most of my games running through Crossover on my Macbook, so the need is fairly low at the moment. Maybe before I take another long flight somewhere.

sounds good

I have a steamdeck oled. it’s great. screen is lovely & the battery is decent.

oh nice, I’ve never heard of crossover. might have to look into that for my mac.

Yeah it’s lovely.
I tried playing Pathfinder: Kingmaker a couple months ago, and the mechanics were killing me. Maybe I’m just allergic to D&D, dunno, but I’m wary of BG3 now.

the msi claw 8 looks lovely. 8" 120hz screen w/vrr. I really dig the sorta retro styling, and I’m one of the small minority who prefer windows to steamOS

man it’s expensive tho. €1100 in Europe. fairly spicy that.

anyone here got one?

Yeah, I grew up playing the OG Fallouts, Baldurs Gate and all those infinity engine games and unfortunately BG3 and the Wrath of the Righteous are just too much for me. I finished neither but got at least halfway through both. I lose momentum when I have that many unique items in my stash, countless journal entries to prioritize and and have to think about when to take naps (it’s too close to real life for me as a 40 year old dad working full time). Again POE2 just nails the sweetspot AND it allows a more meandering approach to experiencing the world kind of like the heyday of Elder Scrolls Daggerwind type RPGs.

I’m also happy with POE2. They seem to be treating early access right, not perpetually early but a way to phase in complex content. They are adding a bunch next week and it seems to be on the right track.

Same thing here.

Played Fallout 1 /2, Baldurs Gate 1/2, Torment etc but Wrath of the Righteous was just too much for me. Its a wonderful game really but damn , after 130 hours im done (only in chapter 3). There is just too much to do and the fact that you had to manage an army, ressources, the amount of items, quest and all that , i just cant. I really wanted to finish this game but i have 2 kids and … you know life

Didnt played BG3 yet but i’ll try POE2 !

I have a feeling you’re talking about a different PoE2 lol.

Baldurs Gate 3 was lovely in terms of flexibility and freedom, but I agree it was too much for me to handle in terms of inventory and build at times. I keep wanting to go back and finish it, but my gaming time is so limited anymore. My favorite DnD-based PC game was the original Neverwinter Nights (the single player campaign). Despite it being janky even on a good computer, the gameplay was fun, and for the time, the graphics and expansiveness (considering the toolkit and moddable nature of it) were really something.

To be honest, I’ve considered a Steam deck a few times and never really knew these Windows handhelds existed (because I never seriously shopped for any handhelds). This thing looks very nice, and not a lot higher than an OLED Steam deck. I’m also curious on others’ opinions of these.

Got Atomfall on PC (60fps easily on ultra on a 4060ti 16gb). So far it’s definitely intriguing, and I really appreciate them toning down the hand holding that pervades lots of big games now, making the discovery a bit more natural. Plus, i was one of the few who loved We Happy Few and it scratches that itch.
