How long was your completion time? Cairn has been a lot of fun so far. I find myself legitimately having sweaty hands during some stretches.

24 hours. I took my time trying to find everything, pretty much did apart from one encounter right near the start of the main ascent (look for caves).

Looking forward to the inevitable DLC.

Since i upgraded my pc, i am playing some games i missed or didn’t have time.
Like The Last of Us, both parts.
And Cyberpunk 2077 i am playing again just full graphics and with nexus mods. Fun!
Waiting for Resident Evil Requiem to come out. Path tracing in it looks amazing.

Thanks for this! I guess besides technicalities like save points or sleep mode, Iā€˜m wondering about this: is Cairn a game that’s ideal for picking up where you left two days or two weeks ago, slowly making some progress and shutting it off again until the next time? Or does this game want you to commit and be in the headspace to tackle its climbing system for at least 30 minutes or so regularly? Tldr: will I be overwhelmed, confused and bad at the game it I don’t play it that often or for longer sessions?

Yes and no / it depends. If you’re like me and want to find and collect everything then longer play sessions are beneficial so you can follow your planned optimal back and forth route to completion, stopping halfway and coming back to it might mean you have to spend a few minutes or more figuring out what you were doing. You can show your previously climbed route though which helps.

If you’re not as bothered with completionism and just want to make a straight run through to the summit then it’s probably fine to pick up and play every so often. In terms of learning and remembering the climbing mechanics I think it’ll depend on how good you are at that sort of thing, but there’s not too many buttons to remember and it’s fairly logical stuff.

Hey just tried it on the Steam Deck. The game runs well at a constant 30fps, which sounds like not a lot, but for the slow gameplay it’s certainly enough. The game looks great. I’ve not played it much (just 20-30min) but so far I didn’t have any issues finding decent paths up the mountain…I’m sure difficulty will increase, maybe then the screensize will become an issue, but so far no problem at all.

As for casual gaming, from my first impression this game seems perfect for exactly those 20-30min dive ins. It’s calming, interesting, beautiful graphics, mentally stimulating…I really enjoyed the meditative yet physically straining vibe (I could really feel my avatar getting the shakes etc :)). The only issue with the short spurts of gaming is that it seems one has to make it to save points in order to save any progress. But from my first 20-30min I feel there’s a save point every 10min or so.

Hope this helps.

I’ve got a question for you guys, I’ve been watching the fallout TV series and really like it, I’ve never played the games but the show has my interest piqued, what’s your honest opinions on the games, are they fun or is it a grind fest filled with micro transactions?

I haven’t played all of the fallout games, but I can recommend fallout new vegas. Might be a bit dated by now in terms of graphics and combat gameplay, but there’s definitely no micro transactions. The quests, writing and factions are great, though. Fallout 3 and 4 are also pretty good, but new vegas is the best out of those three imo.

Thanks fella I’ll take a look then…

I played fallout 4 and I enjoyed it. The main plot didn’t quite work though, I heard new vegas is the best of the bunch too

Played Fallout 1 and 2, and loved them when I was young. They are a bit like some special gear you just sync with but for someone else, they sync with a different gear.

There is a fun plot, lots of strange characters… To me these two games were like proper indie hits compared to the whole fps thing that came after. But some really loved F4 with the London mod overhaul, I heard…
Only thing that bothered me with F1 is one certain big quest you need to finish with a time limit (or basically game over)… so that’s something to focus on, so you don’t get deadended… Once that’s done, the game world is a fun trip (if you have the time for it)… F2 has no such time limit questing…

I suggest 3 and then new vegas. 4 felt bad when I tried it. Great games.

I have been playing Hades lately. It’s huge fun, but I have to wonder if I will ever clear it. Hades II waiting in line.

The ending(s) of Fallout 4 genuinely ruined my entire playthrough experience, something I don’t think I’ve experienced elsewhere. I’d recommend not concluding the story, the rest of the game is generally really pretty fun.

I haven’t played the original two games, I do intend to though because I’ve heard good things. I liked 3 a lot.

Liked Fallout 1 ,2 and New Vegas. TBO i never liked Bethesda idea of Fallout but i guess lots of people enjoyed F3 so …

There will be many opinions regarding fallout games. One is that tv series doesn’t reflect the game it self. Quite the opposite.
Personally whole lore of Fallout games is amazing, i just could never stomach the graphics. Personally i find all Bethesda games quite ugly

Warning: Potential spoilers ahead, so read with caution if you still plan on playing fallout 4.

I had the exact same experience you described. I put quite a few hours in the game and advanced the story until a point where I couldn’t decide who to side with because they all seemed like assholes. So I just quit. There were some cool moments, though. And I really liked the DLC on the misty island.

I was a big fan of all the Fallout games up to New Vegas. Only played a little bit of Fallout 4, quit when the base building part was introduced, which I did not care for at all.

wow, this game is beautiful! a bit data overload at first but slowly starting to make sense and come together with the progress. I still can’t figure out how to properly use the galatic map but it’s ok, really enjoying exploring anyway.

beautiful beautiful game. and works almost flawlessly on m1 ultra, there’s some lag when switching galaxies but the gameplay itself very smooth.
