Cairn has released! -

I played the demo and the climbing gameplay is excellent, feels shockingly realistic and immersive. Almost every other climbing game or game with climbing in it ends up just being ā€˜push forward on the stick while keeping an eye on your stamina bar’, Cairn gets around brilliantly, having you plan your routes carefully and requiring you to pay close attention to the sounds and animations of the character.

I’m playing Control: Ultimate Edition and loving it. I know it’s a slightly older game, but it’s my first experience in the Oldest House and it’s a doozy. Highly recommended for fans of action/horror and brutalist architecture.

This is one of my favourite games from childhood and I think it still great today and even better then the newer reboot version. They are still great but man this one is juste something special. If you are able to play it I highly recommend it :alien:

XCOM Enemy unknown PS1 and UFO Enemy unknown on Amiga.

XCOM was my first game ever! I visited my father’s workplace, and they had a pirated version on every PC.

I’m playing Dicey Dungeons currently and having a blast. It’s a clever little game with some interesting twist and it’s had me bite my Steamdeck a couple of times already.

One of my all time faves. The atmosphere is unmatched, even by their other games which I also adore. I’ll stop here to avoid spoiling anything or gushing for ages, it’s such a special game.

Dicey Dungeon rocks, especially since itā€˜s one of those games where you can just play a quick run lr two from time to time.

And obviously X-COM and UFO are stone-cold classics, good stuff.

anyone plays cyberpunk 2077 on silicon mac? would love to know if it runs good enough on full hd, would love to pick it up on the next sale

or maybe has any other open world game recommendation that works good on mac?

As far as I know you can play Cyberpunk on M1 macs. Not on highest settings but it seems ok. Check youtube, there are plenty of videos.

As. far as open world games, there are so many. Check out Crossover, you can almost play any windows game on mac.
To my mind first comes Baldurs gate 3 or Diablo4

I’ve seen crossover but I’d rather settle for less games that are native to macs instead of using some virtualization layer and hope for the best it’s somewhat working, also it’s waaaay too pricey for my casual gaming needs…

I’ve also looked at rust but that seems just like some pugb clone or something and I don’t really like these games, the only modern fps I like is counter strike but unfortunately they dropped mac support for that…

No Man Sky and Sleeping Dogs are both available for Mac

thanks! both looking interesting, will give them a shot.

btw, I just now found this website with a decent db of games, including native and virtualization reports

Has anyone tried Cairn with a Steamdeck? This game is really intriguing to me and I’m thinking about getting a deck. But it might be a game you need to hold a controller in your hands for?

I don’t have a Deck but I would imagine Cairn should work fine on one. I think the only potential issue is that a big part of the game is looking for often very small cracks/crevices/lumps to use as holds, and on a small low resolution screen it might get annoying. The stylised graphics help with visibility, and there is a free camera view you can go into which helps, but it’s something to consider.

I finished Cairn the other day, really enjoyed it. I’ve got mixed feelings about the story/characters/theming, but the climbing/exploration/survival gameplay was very fun and compelling.

I think Baby Steps is still my favourite traversal game so far, though I need to play Death Stranding 1 again, and play the sequel too.

I just got it today to play on SteamDeck. Will get back to you as soon as I’ve had a go!

@GurtTractor and @hausland : Thanks, much appreciate the feedback!

I was also wondering whether that visual feedback aspect might be a dealbreaker on the Deck.

More crucially though, I’ve realized I currently only have time to play games in short bursts of around 15-30 minutes whenever the occasion appears. And I’d then need to make some progress that’s saved without having to hit a save point or something like that (that killed Prime 4 for me). So I assume Cairn isn’t a game for my current situation either?

Should be able to return exactly where you were in game by way of sleep mode.

Not to be confused with sleeping in Cairn, like putting your Deck in sleep mode will just allow the game to remain where you left it.

You can turn on auto-saving which saves the game whenever you reach solid ground (i.e. when you’re standing on a ledge and not climbing). That probably covers most of the stretches of climbing that you will do, though I think there can be some longer runs depending on which routes you take and your skill in navigating them.

In regards to be able to see the holds the only thing I can suggest is to try watching some gameplay video of Cairn on a Steam Deck’s screen, and see if you think it would be manageable. Most of the holds are fairly clear due to how the geometry is shaded, there can be some pretty small little bits that are tricky to see even on a big monitor though.
