Chroma Console | Hologram Electronics

Order numbers in the 14400 range are shipping currently. Mine is up in about 400 orders, so still looking good for January delivery.

I am planning to use this pedal as an inspirational tool, primarily for quickly testing and developing ideas created on my hardware setup, that will later be replaced (or not) with ‘proper’ in-the-box effects during post-production. Let’s see if it evolves into anything more than that.

Interesting, where do you see what order number they’re shipping? I’m in the 157XX range. Original predicted ship date was January. We’ll see how that goes

People are sharing shipping info pretty frequently in this Gear Page thread

Emily Hopkins (harpist) made a video in response to some comments made earlier in the thread…

I don’t know how I feel about Yvette copping my stage name, but this was funny.

Both amazing players… Great to see them taking the piss outa the boys club.

Cheers!

My January batch order just shipped (148xx)

If I didn’t have any pedals or was just starting out I’d pick up one of these. The routing capabilities seem interesting, but I feel like I could just swap the order of my current pedals and achieve similar results in the studio. Obviously for live use having lots of options in a single box and recallable is a good selling point. Looking fwd to more demos

I‘m sure you can. The effects themselves are really good but nothing special. But how often do you really unplug your pedals and re-route everything to just try stuff? It’s literally just six button presses on the Chroma. And everything is there in stereo. Don’t underestimate how this makes you experiment with different routings and do sound design sessions.

Also easily doable with MIDI 5 Pin in and out/thru for daisy chaining. Plus things like automation recording. It’s all just so straightforward and easy, you get it the first time you do it and it’s printed on the pedal in case you forget.

Compare this to e.g. a Chase Bliss pedal, where two mono cables won’t get you stereo, you need a specific MIDI cable adapter and any modulation requires you to hit some dip switches, read the manual for understanding what they do and how secondary controls work etc.

It should be obvious that this should be done how the Chroma handles it, but apparently the other manufacturers don’t think so, and Hologram should be applauded for that.

Currently, you can easily chain and re-order effects that are not part of the same module.

Paired with Faderfox EC4 for direct access to secondary controls. FX 1-4 encoders are for quickly selecting an effect. Loving this thing so far.

How’s the sound? I’m waiting for mine to arrive - Xmas pressie from the missus. Not quite sure whether my Prologue or Behringer Edge are going to like it more. Thinking the Edge will be interesting pairing for spacey FX, sounds, it’s actually quite a nice mono synth when played melodically and pairs well with even basic Ableton FX.

@Tchu is this your video?
It very nice and made me regret that I sold my microcosm and a blooming gas for the console

Unfortunately, no (I wish I had a Grandmother🤣). It is from Hologram Electronics.

Had mine for about a month, and am really loving it. It’s pretty much just on all the time now when I’m sampling shit into my DAW.

The gesture feature has become indispensable for me. Didn’t really see the use for it when I first got the pedal, but it allows you to make really cool, movement and depth to the sound.

Someone mentioned above that the character section (like Broken and Interference) are a bit “obvious”, so I’ve been using gesture to sort of fade those effects in and out over what I’m feeding through the pedal that’s really unlocked some really cool sounds.

Overall, still loving mine! I almost want a second one to play live with, so I can keep a pristine one in the lab.

I’ve noticed that the overall signal coming out of my Chroma is pretty different when it is bypassed and the effects mix knob is turned up to, well, more than nothing.

Specifically, the character module seems to cause this problem. As soon as any of the character effects is chosen (there’s any light), the setting of tilt applies an EQ - even when amount of that character effect is set to zero. Did I change some weird configuration or is this the normal behavior? Really thankful if someone can check on theirs.

I’ve noticed something similar when I have effects enabled and then trigger the bypass. I usually have to tweak the mix in order to get it levelled back out again.

Do you Calibrate your Inputs before using the Chroma?

@Tchu: Yes, I’ve run auto calibration a few times and also checked the manual calibration settings. It’s set to the highest/line level right now.

I’ve also checked all the volume settings and of course the filter. Until I eventually found that it’s the character module. If all of the other modules are not even set to an effect, but character is set to any effect but with amount to zero, the EQ tilt still always applies, as long as bypass is active and mix knob is not set to zero. Could you please test this with your setup?
